The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 242

I didn't hold out much hope for this. Whether or not Fabian would actually investigate it would probably depend on my attitude toward him.

After downing a glass of alcohol, I felt a fiery burn in my throat.

Glancing at the bottles on the table, I noticed that the drinks were all quite strong.

"Mr. Zahn, it looks like your alcohol tolerance is getting better and better," I said.

He did not bother with any modesty as he poured me another glass. "All this socializing outside that I do has trained me well."

I was starting to feel a bit dizzy after just one glass. I placed my hand over my glass to signal that I couldn't drink anymore.

"Any more and I'll cause a mess," I remarked.

The worst time to drink was during business discussions.

Fabian looked a little displeased when he heard that. He pushed my hand away and said in a somewhat hoarse voice, "In that case, we can just discuss business tomorrow. Tonight, we're drinking until we're drunk."

Drinking until we're drunk? What was wrong with him?

I looked at Murphy and signaled for him to get me some hangover remedy.

Right as Murphy got up to leave, Fabian grabbed his wrist. "Sit down and drink with us."

I said, "He can't drink. He needs to drive later."

Fabian responded, "I'll send you two back later."

Fabian looked out the window and smirked. "You've got so many people with you. Can none of them drive?" His tone was dripping with sarcasm.

I shook my head, realizing there was no way I could escape this drinking session. After all, I had just asked him to help investigate Xavier's situation. I picked up my glass and downed it in one go. "I'll only drink three glasses."

That was my limit.

Fabian nodded in satisfaction. "Alright, three glasses it is."
