Back then, Yvonne was innocent and kind. Even though she had just broken up with Jared when I met her, she was nothing like the ruthless woman she was now.
Yvonne avoided my gaze with tears in her eyes.
"If you don't want to talk about it, then forget it," I said.
I never liked forcing people to speak. She raised her head and choked out, "His company is planning on abandoning him. Most of his resources have been given to someone else. He's not happy with it and thinks this has something to do with me. Last night, when we were together…"
Yvonne suddenly stopped there, not wanting to go into that much detail. Only then did I notice the high-necked blouse she was wearing today.
She used to wear long dresses and rarely wore anything like this.
As an outsider, it wasn't my place to comment. So, I merely responded with a grunt.
The atmosphere between us started to become awkward, so I picked up the document that she brought. It was a transfer agreement that was still missing Jared's signature.
"This is all I can do. Xavier's contract is still in Jared's hands. I can't get it, but I can sign a commercial agreement with you. Then at least Xavier's work will be managed by you in the short term," Yvonne explained.
I looked over the contents of the contract and didn't notice anything problematic.
"If I sign this, it'll be hard for you to take it back." I looked directly into Yvonne's eyes and tried to figure out her true intentions.
She didn't hesitate as she nodded firmly. "Alright."
By now, she didn't have many demands. All she wanted was for Xavier to stay in the entertainment industry and preserve his popularity.
"Then, it's settled for now," I said.
I put the contract away but did not sign it yet. Yvonne leaned forward somewhat anxiously. "I'll call Xavier over."
Just as she pulled out her phone and prepared to call Xavier's teacher, I raised my hand to stop her. "There's no rush. I'll look for him when I'm free."
