The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 353

But Lorraine was acting as if it didn't matter. It was as if I could even show her the photos and she would still smile and say she trusted me.

It scared me a bit. It left me feeling like something was slipping away from me, which left me with an overwhelming sense of insecurity.

"I'm scared," Lorraine finally shared her thoughts at my insistence.

"What are you afraid of?" I gently tried to coax her into expressing her thoughts.

"I'm afraid of you leaving me." Lorraine pouted as she rubbed her belly. She already had a baby, but it felt like she still lacked a sense of security.

The hurt in her eyes was so evident that my heart ached.

"I'm worried that you won't want me anymore. I'm scared that you'll really leave me if I ask too many questions," Lorraine said helplessly. She had probably experienced many similar things before.

Gerald's constant pressure on her had left her without much self-confidence. She held the constant belief that everyone around her would leave her. So, she always suppressed her true feelings and endured everything silently. It was all in the hopes that others would stay close to her.

As I watched her distressed expression, I couldn't help but kiss her on the forehead. "We already have a baby together."

I held her hand. "How could I not want you?"

Pulling her into my arms, I said, "I'll never give you up."

I would never abandon her as long as she never betrayed me.

Pregnancy could make emotions unstable. The emotions that came quickly left just as fast.

After I finally managed to comfort her, Gerald called.

"Cole, you little bastard. Did you lie to me? There's no one at the hospital." Gerald's angry voice could be heard through the phone.

"I told you to move quickly," I said in a mocking tone.

Gerald was clearly unhappy as he said, "Since you met him, you must know what he's up to. Find him for me. As long as you get him back for me, you can name whatever price you want."

"Are you sure?" I asked in surprise. I never expected Gerald to go this far for Sam.
