I gently pulled Lorraine onto my lap. Her belly had become more pronounced recently.
"Will they cause you trouble?" Lorraine asked with concern. She was worried that she would be a burden to me.
"Let them try. What do I have to fear?" I asked.
Even though we had been married for a while, Lorraine still treated me with reserved politeness. I wanted to change this habit of hers, but she was quite firm about it. I looked at her helplessly as I toyed with her fingers.
After she got pregnant, Lorraine seemed to have become incredibly soft to the touch. She was like a cat, and she was absolutely adorable.
When Gerad's call came, I was still holding Lorraine. I glanced at the familiar number before shooting Lorraine a look. I only answered when I was sure that she didn't react to it.
"Let's meet." His voice sounded weary. He had probably failed to find Sam.
"Have you finally come around?" I asked.
Lorraine's body stiffened as she tried to get out of my lap.
I pushed her down and stopped her from leaving. On the other end, Gerald's cold voice said, "I'll tell you everything I know."
Hearing that, Lorraine's struggle seemed to weaken. She held her breath as she cautiously watched me.
I chuckled. "Same café as last time."
After I hung up, Lorraine wrapped her arms around my neck and asked, "What were you two talking about?"
"Don't you already know?" I asked.
She was very smart, and she knew I wouldn't bother meeting with Gerald without a good reason.
"Is it because of me?" Lorraine asked.
She continued with a hint of guilt, "I don't want you to go through too much trouble for me."
"What's the big deal?" I smoothed her hair and asked. "DO you want to come with me?"
"Really?" Lorraine stood up excitedly.
