The moment I answered the call, I could hear Chad's angry voice. "My dad is in the hospital."
He got straight to the point, and I immediately understood his intentions.
"Are you asking me for money?" I asked coldly. It was clearly Gerald who had acted out of line, but they were trying to pin the blame on me.
"Cole, don't push things too far. You beat up my dad. It's only natural that you compensate him," Chad insisted.
"What kind of compensation are you looking for?" I asked.
I said sarcastically, "Or do you think I didn't hit hard enough and want a few punches yourself?"
"Cole, don't get too cocky!" Chad shouted angrily. His voice was starting to annoy me.
"So, what now?" I asked.
There was nothing much these people could do. The only thing Chad was capable of was just begging for money.
"We'll sue you if you don't pay up. No matter what, my dad is still your father-in-law," Chad threatened.
"Go ahead. But let me warn you—the next time won't just be a simple beating if either of you dare to lay a finger on Lorraine," I warned.
There was no way I would let them treat the woman I treasured more than anything so poorly.
"You asked for it," Chad barked out his threat. I knew Gerald was right there beside him as well.
"Gerald, I know you're listening. Let me make myself clear. You'd better give up on any thoughts you might have. If I find out you've acted on them, you won't like the consequences," I warned.
It only took one sentence from me to strike fear into Gerald. He patted his chest and signaled to Chad to hang up the phone. At the last moment, Chad couldn't resist hurling one final threat. "Cole, your days are numbered!"
I sneered when I heard the busy tone that suddenly came after that. "Do you think you're capable of doing anything?"
As if someone like him was capable of doing anything to me.
After hanging up, Gerald gasped for air. "He's still so arrogant even after being kicked out of the Joplin family."
