Chris knelt on the ground and pleaded desperately. He had always assumed that Grandma wouldn't come to the company. So, as long as he kept the books clean, no one would discover anything. How could he have known that I would appear out of nowhere?
If he had known this beforehand, he would never have gone down this path. At this point, he no longer had any way out.
Grandma's expression was icy, and she didn't even spare Chris a glance as he wept at her feet pitifully.
Only the three of us were left in this large room, and Grandma let out a heavy sigh. "I shouldn't have trusted you or that shameless father of yours."
Grandma's whole body was trembling. She knew that Chris was greedy, but she never expected him to be so daring that he would target the family's company.
When he heard what she said, Chris realized that there was no room for him to turn things around.
He crawled over to Grandma. "Grandma, please forgive me. I know what I did was wrong. I really do. I'll give all of my money back to the company, okay?"
He was really afraid that Grandma might actually target his life. It wasn't out of the realm of possibility.
Even though he had never seen how I treated my business rivals, there were still a lot of rumors in the industry. I was known for holding grudges, and those who offended me never ended up with a good outcome.
Back then, Chris had been so pleased when I was kicked out of Joplin Group. He had assumed that there would be quite a number of people who would try to cause me trouble.
Yet those people still remained fearful of me. No one dared to bother me even when I wasn't a part of the Joplin family anymore. Without the protection of Joplin Group and Grandma, Chris couldn't imagine how I might retaliate against him.
Grandma merely steeled herself and said nothing.
No matter how hard Chris pleaded, the expression on her face didn't relax a single bit. She was utterly disappointed in Chris at this point.
