Grandma's eyes flickered with conflict. She was clearly torn about whether to take the gamble.
I laid it out plainly for her. "I definitely won't acquire Joplin Group right now. I really want to see just how capable Chris is."
Thirty million dollars was no small sum. He had probably bitten off more than he could chew.
With the divorce papers and assets secured, I left the Joplin residence with Mom.
Before I left, I stood at the doorway and reminded Henry, "Remember, from now on, we have nothing to do with you."
After I left, the living room of the Joplin residence fell into a dead silence.
Henry's sigh seemed particularly loud in the quiet room.
Chris' head was hung low. He had siphoned off quite a lot of money from a few projects in the past. He had at least ten million dollars on him that could be used.
As for the remaining 20 million dollars, he thought about the marriage proposal that had come in recently. If push came to shove, he could marry off his sister, Yolanda Joplin. Another ten million dollars could probably be scraped together if he approached Sam.
They had a common enemy anyway. It was the perfect chance to join forces.
Grandma sat in silence for a long time. When she finally lifted her head, her expression was no longer filled with ridicule. Instead, it was filled with suspicion and confusion.
"Chris, can you really come up with 30 million dollars?" she asked.
Chris nodded under her skeptical gaze. "I can."
He walked up to her and said respectfully, "Grandma, if you're willing, then let me return. If you're not, then just treat it as me investing and buying shares."
Wiping the tears at the corner of his eyes, Chris added, "I'm doing this because I want to redeem myself. I know I've let you down and failed the company. If I can gather the money, it'd be much better than letting Cole acquire the company."
