The Heart Left Behind (Cole and Yvonne) novel Chapter 63

"You don't love me at all." The IV needle on Xavier's hand was slightly off, and a little blood seeped out.

"Jared is the only one who loves me."

Jared was the one who spent time with Xavier, and there was actually a reason he kept Xavier away from me. However, Xavier simply didn't understand how hard I had it.

The way Xavier saw it, I had a great company and a ton of time on my hands. It was just that I never wanted to drop by and see him.

"I don't need you to lecture me. Get away from me. I hate you!" Xavier kicked the air with his feet. He didn't care about the terrible look on my face. All he wanted was for me to leave his ward.

"If you think I won't get angry because you're not feeling well right now, then you're dead wrong, Xavier."

Had I indulged him? He was much more rebellious than I imagined.

"Get angry for all I care. Hit me if it makes you happy." Xavier lifted his chin, but he didn't get the slap he was expecting. He opened his eyes carefully and saw that I was pacing back and forth in the ward.

"I didn't want to tell you about it this soon, Xavier. But you're too out of control. I have to let you know that I'm your father."

I didn't want to drag this out. I was worried that Xavier would hate me even more if this kept up.

"I've talked it over with your mom, and I want you to live with me."

"What did you say?" Xavier's eyes widened and sparkled. He looked so innocent and naive that I wanted to pinch his cheeks.

"From this day on, I'm your legal guardian."

"A-Are you taking me with you?" Xavier was still fixated on what I said two sentences ago. Judging by the dazed look on his face, I thought he wasn't willing to go with me.

With that said, it didn't matter if he was willing to do it.

"Get some rest. I'll check on you again later." I closed the door and looked at Yvonne, who was sitting to the side. Her eyes were bloodshot, and she was trembling when she looked at me.

"I'll see you in court after we get back—"

"I'll split up with Jared." Yvonne's voice was trembling. It seemingly took her a great effort to squeeze the words out.

"I'll never let you take my son away from me." She looked at me the way she would a bitter nemesis. "You're a monster. You won't stop until you've robbed me of everything I've ever had."

Huh?

"You're the one who wanted a divorce with me. You cheated on me and took one out of two kids with you. What makes you think you can complain about anything?"

Just how unreasonable could Yvonne be?

I took a seat in front of her and crossed my feet. "I wanted to preserve your dignity."

Back then, I gathered evidence of her affair, but I didn't make it known to the public. In fact, our parents still didn't know the reason for our divorce.
