The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 296

Nolan saying he switched the vial sounded like the perfect retort, but the crowd burst into laughter. It didn't matter if they knew about the Spirit of Life Serum, it was as if Nolan had just cracked the biggest joke of the evening.

Ironhead was doubled over and jeered, "Oh, Nolan, you're really clutching at straws now, aren't you? You switched the vial? I mean, at least it's a creative response.

"Let me ask everyone here this. If you came into possession of something as precious as the Spirit of Life Serum, wouldn't you be careful with every single drop?"

The crowd spoke up.

"Of course! We would never let a single drop of something so valuable go to waste."

"Exactly. A rare treasure would naturally be handled with the utmost care."

Ironhead grinned. "Do you get it now, Nolan? You don't, and that is because you have no idea how valuable the Spirit of Life Serum is. I'd bet you only just heard about it. Why else would you bring up something so ridiculous like switching the vial?

"Who would even risk the slightest spill with something so priceless? And if this was a gift, why would anyone replace a beautifully crafted crystal vial with a cheap glass one? Are you out of your mind, or do you think we all are?" Ironhead chortled, thoroughly amused by the situation.

Nolan just sighed. Was the Spirit of Life Serum a priceless treasure? It may have been a treasure everyone else could only dream of, but it was an easily obtainable item to him.
