The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 444

Ben could only smile and agree, saying, "You're absolutely right, Mr. Greene Senior. If it weren't for Nolan's contributions back then, the village wouldn't have developed so well. Although the subsequent development has had little to do with him, we must remember he was the one who started it all.

"Nolan is a good person, but for some reason, he went down the wrong path a few years ago and ended up in prison for a while."

Harold simply nodded at Ben and said nothing further.

At that moment, under the crowd's enthusiastic encouragement, Nolan slowly stood up and began walking toward the stage.

Was Megan trying to put him in the spotlight? He didn't mind at all. After all, if they weren't afraid of making things worse, Nolan certainly wasn't either.

Just as Nolan was slowly making his way up to the stage, someone suddenly spoke up, "I object! It's fine for Nolan to go up and greet everyone, but to say he can sit at the table with all the distinguished guests—that's definitely out of the question. Certain rules must still be observed, after all."

"That's right, I object too! Nolan has done nothing for the village. On the contrary, he tarnished its reputation by going to prison. If he's allowed to take a seat up there, where does that leave our dignity? Of course, if Nolan insists on relying on his wife to get on stage, we can't stop him. But giving a speech to everyone? You can forget about that! He's not qualified in the slightest."

A group of young men began to jeer and cause a commotion as Nolan made his way to the stage.

Seeing this, Ben frowned and said, "What's all this ruckus? Get out of here! This has nothing to do with you all."

Though Ben told them to leave, there wasn't the slightest trace of blame in his tone. In fact, to be blunt, some people had been preparing to put Nolan in his place ever since they learned he would be attending.
