The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 448

"And one more thing. Mr. Gallant is right. Yes, you funded the creation of Village Enterprise, but it's also because of you that the company was nearly destroyed. So many people almost lost their jobs. Nolan, if you still want a place in this village, you'd better stop spouting nonsense. Stop being so selfish and get off the stage right now!"

Selfish? Nolan couldn't help but laugh.

"What if I told you that the reason Village Enterprise grew to what it is today is because of me? What if I told you that the one everyone should be grateful to the most is me? What if I told you that I had believed most of the profits would go back to the villagers, only to find out that they ended up in the pockets of a few?

"I came here to fight for the villagers' rights, to hold the real culprits accountable, and somehow, I'm the selfish one? If that isn't ironic, I don't know what is."

Nolan found the entire situation utterly absurd.

At that moment, Hoover chuckled softly. "If you think it's funny, then that can only prove one thing—you have no power! Because if you had power, all the things you find funny, others would find them funny too. Nolan, not having power is your original sin; do you understand?"

They were such earnest words. Nolan looked at Hoover with a smirk. "If a hero is defined by his power, then you have no right to speak to me."

Hoover burst into uproarious laughter, as if he had heard the greatest joke on earth. He then shook his head without offering anything further. But his silence said it all.

At that point, Ben, Stefan, and everyone present felt like Nolan had completely lost his mind.

"Get him off the stage! Don't let him embarrass himself any further!"
