"No, why should we pay?"
"Yeah, we're just the employees. Why should we have to pay hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars?"
"Nolan, you're lying to us, right? How could we be in debt? If anyone should pay, it should be Mr. Stutton and Mr. Gallant!"
Many of the villagers were still in disbelief, but Nolan simply extended his hand, and instantly, a file was handed to him.
Nolan took the documents from the file and, with a smile, said, "You weren't supposed to have to pay. All you had to do was lose your jobs. But back then, Mr. Stutton and Mr. Gallant, in an effort to avoid risks, added all of you to the creditors' list—and you supported that decision.
"Of course, you may have your own arguments, but I'm afraid there's no way out of paying. You all seem to have forgotten one thing—you once lent your ID cards to Village Enterprise, didn't you?"
As soon as these words left Nolan's lips, the faces of all the villagers changed drastically. After all, they hadn't just lent their ID cards to Village Enterprise, but had in fact, handed over everything they owned. All this was done to secure those high-interest loans.
When Nolan saw the shocked expression on everyone's faces, he continued softly, "Each one of you, your IDs were used to secure loans. The smallest amount is 200 thousand dollars, and the largest amount can reach 500 or 600 thousand dollars. In some households, nearly every family member's ID was used.
"So, each household has to compensate at least several 100 thousand dollars, and you have no one else but yourself to blame. You even signed the papers, took the photos, and stamped the documents. So, now that Village Enterprise is bankrupt, it's time for you to repay the debts."
At this point, Nolan chuckled softly before continuing, "You might think that it's my actions that have caused you to owe so much money, but unfortunately, I won't take the blame for this. Mr. Stutton, Mr. Gallant, and the rest of their cronies, were too greedy from the very start, and they had already emptied the coffers of Village Enterprise long ago.
"If it weren't for the people I had placed within the company who kept offering them deals, Village Enterprise would have collapsed a long time ago. This was always a ticking time bomb. It's just that now, it's about to explode."
