The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 575

Nolan no longer registered the chaos of the fighting around him. His gaze was fixed solely on Owen, who lay on the ground, barely clinging to life.

Noticing Megan and Jeanne gasping in horror with their hands covering their mouths, he said icily, "And this is who you call your trump card? Your backer?"

For once, Megan was at a loss for words. The shock she felt at that moment was more overwhelming than anything she had ever experienced before.

Nolan had actually dared to go head-to-head with the Norberg family. Not only that, but he had beaten Owen half to death and dragged him over in front of everyone.

This wasn't just a conflict—it was a declaration of an all-out war.

At that moment, Megan was utterly speechless. Jeanne, however, hurriedly tried to reason with him, "Nolan, don't you know you're making yourself a mortal enemy of the Norbergs by doing this?"

Nolan responded by stomping heavily on Owen's wrist. The sickening crack of breaking bones rang out once again. It was clear he intended to shatter every bone in Owen's body.

"From the moment he targeted me, his fate was sealed. And from the moment he killed Lense, it was clear he wouldn't live even if he wanted to. Megan, Jeanne, I brought him here so that you two can take a good look at your so-called backer."

As he spoke, Nolan seemed to lose the last shred of his patience. He dragged Megan and Jeanne right up to Owen, as if afraid they hadn't gotten a clear enough view of him.

Jeanne immediately burst into tears, wailing, "Nolan, this has nothing to do with me! None of this is my fault! It's Megan and Owen who were truly conspiring—it wasn't me! I'm truly innocent. Nolan, I'm innocent! You're the one I really like."

At this point, Jeanne could see clearly that there was no coming back from this for Megan. To tie herself to Megan now would be a death sentence!

At that moment, Megan couldn't spare a thought for Jeanne's betrayal. She trembled uncontrollably as she stared at Nolan. She wanted desperately to deny her involvement, just like Jeanne had, but the problem was that she couldn't.

Besides, she had already placed all of her hopes into Owen. Not to mention, the fight raging around them wasn't over yet, and there was no guarantee that Nolan would come out as the winner. What if he lost? What if, in the end, it was the Norbergs who emerged victorious?
