The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 585

Seeing Vernon lose his composure in rage, Nolan let out a cold chuckle.

"Mr. Vernon, don't get so worked up. Things won't be as fun if you drop dead from anger. You and your entire family better kneel in front of me right now. This is your last chance. If you don't, then in a moment, it won't be up to you anymore."

Nolan spoke as if advising Vernon not to get angry. But every word and every expression of his was laced with blatant mockery.

Vernon took a deep breath and looked at Nolan. "Nolan, I could say the same to you. Kneel before me, swear loyalty to my family, and I might just spare your life. Otherwise, your death will be so terrible that there won't even be a body for your family to bury."

After speaking, Vernon glanced at the time and smiled faintly.

"You have at most five minutes left. After that, even if you want to kneel, it'll depend on whether I allow it or not. And, oh, let me give you a little reminder. You think you're only going against my family today, but in reality, you've offended far more than just us. Someone like you, a lowly thug who clawed his way up from the bottom, will never understand just how powerful families like us truly are."

Even now, Vernon remained unbearably arrogant, almost to the point of being domineering. It was as if he inherently looked down on someone like Nolan, who fought his way up from nothing.

And in a way, it made sense. After all, those born into powerful families carried a sense of superiority etched into their very bones. But today, Nolan was determined to break that pride.

Nolan looked at Vernon and said calmly, "To show my sincerity, let me demonstrate how I deal with your favorite grandson."

With that, he said to Scarlet, "Do it."

Without hesitation, Scarlet passed on the order to his subordinates.

The men immediately went to work on Owen, who had long since passed out. All his fingernails and toenails had already been ripped out, leaving him in such excruciating pain that he had likely lost all sense of reality.

Scarlet stepped forward, gripping a razor-sharp dagger in hand. With a swift motion, he severed one of Owen's feet.

A torn-out fingernail could still grow back, but a severed foot was an entirely different matter—it was gone for good.

Owen was now completely crippled.
