The Ruthless Lycan King Fell For His Slave Mate novel Chapter 10

“I think he is different,” Rae said after Lyra had gotten back into bed.

Lyra frowned into the dark, wondering if they were thinking about the same person. How exactly was he different? “If by different you mean that he is worse than Devon, then, yes.”

Rae was silent for a minute. Finally, she said, “I don’t think he is as bad as Devon.”

“Because he hasn’t forced me to watch him with another female yet?” Lyra said bitterly. “I’m sure that day will come soon.”

Or maybe he would force her to do something way worse.

Should I bring another male who is not your mate?

“I just…” Rae began, then trailed off.

“What?” Lyra asked.

“He hates you because he thinks you have rotten behaviour,” Rae said. “If you could show him the truth–”

“And how am I going to do that?” Lyra asked, feeling a little annoyed. “He thinks everything that comes out of my mouth is a lie. Plus I think he wants it that way. He does not want an Omega queen, so he’ll take any excuse to shun me.”

“He could just get rid of you,” Rae said. “Why hasn’t he done it yet? He doesn’t have to answer to anyone.”

“Maybe he doesn’t want to risk the Goddess’s wrath,” Lyra reasoned. “Also, what would happen if others found out that the king himself rejected his mate? His authority would be questioned.”

“But no one knows you are his mate,” Rae said.

“His Beta must know, I think.”

“Still, he could get rid of you secretly.”

“So why do you think he is keeping me around besides wanting to humiliate me and use me for sexual release?” Lyra asked. “Do you think a Lycan King like him would have any other use for an Omega like me?”

Rae had no answer to that, and it made Lyra feel even more depressed. She had no idea why Rae thought this one was any better than Devon. He hadn’t treated her any better.

The next day turned out to be even worse than the first day. As soon as Lyra walked into the kitchen in her maid uniform, she was met by numerous hostile gazes from the other servants.

“Here she comes,” one of them said, walking up to Lyra. She crossed her arms over her chest and looked Lyra up and down, her lips twisted in a sneer. “The king’s new whore.”

“I wonder what she did to get his attention,” another one said, walking a circle around Lyra. “I can’t see anything special about her.”

“Maybe she bewitched him,” the first one offered. “Look at her.” Without warning, she grabbed Lyra’s hair and tugged her head backwards. “She looks like the kind that traps others’ males like that.”

Lyra reached for the other maid’s hand and tried to get her off, but the other just pulled tighter.

“Do you think you are better than us?” her attacker asked, shoving her to the floor. Her eyes burned with hate as she watched Lyra. The Lycan King had never entered their dormitory before, but he had come for her? She was so much more attractive than Lyra, and yet the king never spared her a second glance even when she tried to seduce him.

“Even if she bewitched him,” a third female offered, “it won’t be for long. Didn’t you hear her last night? Who would want to fuck someone who sounds like that twice?”

“Maybe he didn’t even fuck her,” the second one said. “He must have been so disgusted and left.”

“Didn’t you see how she was walking like a broken doll?” the third maid asked. “He must have given it to her good.”

“She just got here, and yet she has so much time on her hands that she is going around seducing males,” the first one said. She walked away from Lyra and reached for a bowl full of soup. “Let’s give her something to keep her busy.”

“I’ll teach you a lesson,” the maid snarled, her eyes turning red. Lyra’s heart thrummed in her chest. That was a sign of shifting. The others’ eyes had also turned red.

Reaching beneath her dress, Lyra retrieved a dagger she had strapped to her thigh. “Stay away from me.”

The leader, whose name was Claire, laughed. “Wow, I’m so scared.”

Lyra gritted her teeth and tightened her hold on the dagger. The way she saw it, she had nothing to lose. If they came at her, she would not hesitate to slash at them. If they had their wolves, well…she had her dagger.

One of the maids took her uniform off and in the next second, a grey wolf was standing in front of Lyra. Lyra shuffled backwards, moving towards the back door of the kitchen. The other maids followed suit, shifting and stalking after Lyra.

When the first one jumped at her, Lyra stepped back, getting farther away and into the backyard. Out here, she could move better and gauge their movements. But no matter how much she had practised handling the dagger, there was three of them, and in their wolf forms at that.

Lyra managed to slice her dagger into the shoulder of one of the she-wolves, but that was the only hit she got before another one slammed into her and forced her onto the ground. Lyra had thought that they would not dare really hurt her, but looking back at the muzzle a few inches from her face, she realised they did not intend on holding back. Could Omegas do anything they wanted at the royal palace?

The shewolf whose shoulder Lyra had wounded came around and shoved the other to the side. It was Claire. She swiped one of her front paws, digging her claws into Lyra’s shoulder. Lyra screamed in pain and grabbed the wolf’s leg, but one of the other she-wolves snapped up her arm between her fangs.

Unable to fight back, Lyra was completely at their mercy. But she could not beg for them to leave her alone. She would not give them that satisfaction. Rae pleaded with her to do so, but Lyra glared back into Claire’s eyes defiantly.

Claire swept her paw forward, wanting to injure Lyra’s shoulder again, but she suddenly stopped. Lyra saw the fear fill into her eyes instantly, and then all three she-wolves fell silent. Claire jumped off her.

Grabbing her shoulder with her uninjured hand, Lyra looked at the intruder who had caused the she-wolves to back off.

It was a male, handsome, tall, and fair-haired, with an Alpha’s aura. Lyra’s defences went up when he came to her, but all he did was help her get off the ground and sit up.

He frowned as he inspected her wounds. Then, he looked at her with his mesmerising blue-green eyes. In a non-threatening voice, he asked, “What happened?”
