The bonfire party was held in the backyard of the mansion. Everyone was eager to see both the Lycan King and the Luna Queen, so the place was full to the brim and lively.
There was a lot of food and drinks to last everyone throughout the night, and electrifying music mingled with the excited chatter of the pack members.
When Lyra and Julian showed up, Rick appeared out of nowhere and directed them to their seats. “Call me if you need anything,” he said as he filled their wine glasses. “If the wine is not to your taste, I can fetch another bottle from the cellar.”
“Are you sure he is your Beta and not your servant?” Julian asked Lyra through their mindlink.
“He is trying to not get cut into pieces,” she replied, amused. It was sort of entertaining to see Rick behaving that way, especially when she remembered his attitude when he was Devon’s Beta. She had no intention of punishing him, but it was rather satisfying seeing him going out of his way to show how repentant he was.
“Thank you, we will,” she told Rick, dismissing him.
A short while later, a female accompanied by a young boy approached them. As soon as she got right in front of them, she fell to the ground on her knees.
Lyra got up immediately and approached her. “Are you alright?”
“Thank you,” the mother said, looking up at her with teary eyes. “You saved my son’s life. The rogue king forcibly drafted my sixteen year-old son to the army soon after his first shift. He didn’t even know how to use his wolf. He died in battle a few months later. Recently, he had been rounding up much younger children, and I was afraid this one would end up dead too. We were able to get away because of you. Our family owes you our lives.”
“Do you have everything you need here?” Lyra asked her.
The female nodded. “Yes. We moved into a new house last week. We never had one of our own before. Now, we can live without fear. We are very grateful.”
“Then I’m happy,” Lyra said, holding the mother’s arm and helping her to her feet with Julian’s help. “Send your son to school and let him get the right training. Here, no one will force him to fight if he doesn’t want to.”
“I will,” the mother said. “Thank you so much. You have helped so many of us who wanted to leave but had nowhere to go. We’ll do everything we can to give back all the good we have received from you and His Majesty.”
“You don’t owe us anything,” Lyra told her. “We only hope that every werewolf can live in peace and get all the resources and opportunities they need. Tonight, have fun and don’t worry about anything.”
“Thank you, Luna,” the female said, bowing deeply before walking away.
Lyra watched the female and her son walking away. “See? Many of them were victims of the rogue king’s wilful rule. Even if they wanted to run away, no pack would accept them. They had no choice but to do as their king demanded. But now, they are set free.”
“Don’t worry, that won’t be the case anymore,” Julian said. “I’ve instructed all packs to welcome rogues who seek refuge, and if they can’t take them in, to send them here. Whoever is willing to come to us will not be harmed.”
“Thank you, that’ll help a lot,” Lyra told him. “Even though many rogues came out of hiding after Nile’s death and the establishment of this pack, there are still others who are sceptical. Since some packs are not entirely on board with this, the order will make sure the rogues feel safe to come to us.”
“Enough with this serious talk,” Julian said, giving her a smile. Holding out his hand, he asked, “Do you want to dance?”
Lyra smiled and put her hand in his. “Yes, Your Majesty.”
Julian shook his head in amusement and led her towards the dancing crowd. Everybody was so immersed in the music that their appearance did not cause any disruption.
“This is nice,” Juian said when a slower song started and he pulled Lyra into his arms.
Lyra nodded as they both swayed to the music. “Yes.”
