After spending a few days at the Red Moon Pack, Lyra and Julian went back to the palace. When they left, many pack members came to see them off.
When Julian and Lyra left in the car, the members stood and waved until they were out of their sight. While the car made its way through the pack, other members came out of their homes to wave goodbye too.
They all reminded her to not stay away for long, and Lyra wished she could spend more time at the pack. But it could not be helped. As the Luna Queen, the palace was her first home. She could spend some time at the pack, but she would always have to go back to the palace.
“They’ll be fine,” Julian told her, reaching for her hand.
She looked at him and nodded, smiling. “Yeah, I know.”
They had shown that despite the special constitution of the pack, they could go on without needing her supervision all the time. If anything happened that needed her attention, she would make her way to the pack right away. But other than that, she was confident that Rick and the others she had put in charge would have everything under control.
When they arrived at the palace, preparations for Zero and Anna’s wedding, which was taking place at the palace the next day, were underway. Zero and Anna’s visit to the Azure Pack had elicited various opinions from the pack elders and members, but in the end, the date for the wedding had been set. They expected a lot of guests from all around the kingdom.
The day of the wedding, Lyra went into the bridal dressing room just before the ceremony started. Anna was standing in front of the mirror, looking at her appearance. Lyra walked up to her and stood behind her, admiring her dress.
It was a beautiful gown that had been worn by the past three generations of Lunas in the Azure Pack. Anna’s tiara was a precious heirloom of the royal family, made of gold and adorned with blue sapphires.
“You look gorgeous,” Lyra told her.
“Thank you,” Anna said, looking a bit shy. “I still can’t believe this is happening.”
“It is,” Lyra told her.
“Thank you for letting us have the wedding here,” Anna said. “I never would have dreamt of something like this. It feels like I’m dreaming.”
“You deserve the best,” Lyra told her. “It’s your big day, so enjoy it.”
“Do you think everyone will be okay with it?” Anna asked.
Lyra gently placed her hands on Anna’s shoulders and met her gaze in the mirror. “Everyone? No. But what they think does not matter. You and Zero have accepted each other, and that’s all that matters.”
Anna nodded and inhaled deeply. “You are right. I just don’t want to be a burden to him. If people don’t think he is a fit Alpha because of me–”
“Stop, you are overthinking,” Lyra told her. “First, I think with time, all those busybodies will learn to mind their own business. There’s nothing they can do since Zero has made his choice, and they’ll know better than to keep antagonising you. Secondly, you are Zero’s fated mate. Who but the Goddess has a better judgement of who is a better fit for who?”
“Thank you,” Anna told her. “You always know how to put me at ease.”
“We have been through many similar situations,” Lyra told her. “I know it’s not easy to stop worrying when you’re used to things never working out. But trust me, that’s all behind you now. You have Zero and the rest of us around you, and we are on your side. The others should not matter.”
The door to the bridal room opened, and Beryl walked in. “Is the lady of the day ready? We are about to begin.”
“I’m ready,” Anna said.
Beryl handed her a bouquet of flowers. “Great, it’s time. The music will start any time now, so you two should be ready to walk down the aisle.”
Lyra was escorting Anna down the aisle as her maid of honour. Julian was Zero’s best man, and they would be waiting at the altar. The venue was the banquet hall, which had been prepared to suit the occasion.
Anna took a step towards the door but stumbled, swaying forward. Lyra quickly caught her and steadied her with an arm around her waist. “Are you okay?”
“Yes,” Anna said, but she stumbled with her next step too. Suddenly, she felt too hot and suffocated, as if she was not getting enough air. She stopped trying to walk and focused on her breathing.
