The Ruthless Lycan King Fell For His Slave Mate novel Chapter 13

Thea worked Lyra hard for the rest of the day and did not give her a morsel to eat just as she had threatened. By the end of the day, Lyra was feeling hungry and desolate, and she hoped that she would not run into Julian. He did nothing but make her miserable, and she had enough of that for one day.

When Lyra got back to her room in the dormitory, she started tending to her wounds. While Zero’s treatment had helped her earlier, her injuries had started hurting and bleeding again because of all the hard work she had done throughout the day.

If she was any stronger as a werewolf, she would not need to take care of her wounds so much for them to heal. But the way things were, her healing abilities were not any better than a human’s.

While she cleaned her wounds, she could not help thinking about Julian and how he had acted when he showed up at Zero’s suite earlier. He had dismissed her like she was a disgusting bug he could not bear to look at.

He was her mate and the one person who should have her back, but he was her biggest enemy. What had happened with Zero had been an accident, but of course Julian would not believe her. To him, it was just another proof that she was promiscuous. He would never believe her.

Her own mate’s attitude aside, her entire situation at the palace was hopeless. What kind of future awaited her? Would she be stuck in this kind of suffering for the rest of her life?

“Of course not,” Rae disagreed. “I know you only feel that way because you cannot shift, but this won’t be permanent. Don’t make them make you feel like you’ll be weak and helpless forever. Even if it takes long to make our first shift, we should keep building our power. When the time comes, we’ll be ready.”

Lyra was amazed at her wolf’s positivity. After Devon’s rejection, Rae had become weaker. That meant even if there was a possibility that Lyra could shift after so many years of failing to do so, it would be delayed further.

“How are we going to build our power if this is how we are forced to live every day?” Lyra asked her. Her every moment was controlled at the palace. Back at the Red Moon Pack, she had been able to get away and train a bit sometimes. That was when she had started learning how to use the dagger. But after being pretty powerless with her dagger in a fight against Omega shewolves, she was not sure her training had been useful at all.

“Today was tough, but we can’t let them win,” Rae told her. “One day I’ll be the strongest wolf, and you’ll have powers beyond an Alpha. I might seem impossible, but it’ll happen.”

Rae was right, it seemed impossible. Lyra could easily put it off as Rae trying to cheer her up, but the way she said it, it sounded as if she really believed it. As if it was something certain that she had no doubt about.

“That would be the day,” Lyra mumbled, allowing herself to imagine such an occurrence. Even stronger than an Alpha? Besides the Lycan King, only the Mother Wolf could have such power, and she would definitely not be an Omega.

“You don’t believe me, do you?” Rae asked, her tone light.

“Well…” Lyra trailed off.

“What do we have to lose?” Rae asked her. “It’ll be better if we try our best, right? It’s better than doing nothing.”

“You are right about that,” Lyra agreed.

“You are a fighter,” Rae told her. “You don’t know when to shut up to save your skin and while it might not always be a good thing, it’s a good sign.”

Lyra laughed. “I’m not so sure about that.”

“Oh, it is. It shows you want to fight back. You are not the kind of person who just lowers her head and takes whatever is thrown her way without at least showing her displeasure. Even if you can’t do anything about it, you don’t simply give in.”

Lyra found herself smiling. It was true that she had a stubborn streak, and she was not the best at acting all subservient even when she was in trouble. All it did was land her in more trouble, but that never stopped her.

Rae was right, there was nothing to lose. If Lyra gave in and decided to do nothing, it would be to her own disadvantage. If there was a future that could be better, she was willing to give a try to reach it. She would never know unless she tried.

“Okay,” she said to her wolf. “It would be a bore to let them win easily. Let’s get as strong as we can.”

“That’s the spirit,” Rae cheered.
