The Ruthless Lycan King Fell For His Slave Mate novel Chapter 18

When Lyra woke up, she could not tell where she was for a moment. Dazed, she looked around, and that was when she realised she was in Alpha Zero’s room. But how?

She remembered leaving Julian’s room, walking back to the dormitory…but it had been locked. She must have fallen asleep outside the door. That did not explain how she ended up in Zero’s room.

“You passed out,” Rae told her. “Alpha Zero found you and brought you here.”

“Oh,” Lyra mumbled, feeling embarrassed. Alpha Zero kept finding her at her worst. She did not want to imagine how she must have looked when he found her.

As she rose from the bed, she realised the pains and aches from the injuries she had attained the other day. After last nights, uh, events, she must have been feeling especially sore. But she felt oddly refreshed.

She folded back the sleeve of Julian’s robe, which she was still wearing, to check the injury on her arm. She was met by smooth skin. Frowning, she checked her shoulder. The injury there was gone too.

“He healed you with his power,” Rae told her. “He also took care of you until your fever subsided.”

“I had a fever?” Lyra asked, baffled.

“Yeah. He also took leave for you, so don’t worry about that.”

“He did?” Why was he so…perfect? Her chest filled with warmth. Why was he so nice to her? He was an Alpha of the royal lineage, and she was an Omega with a questionable background. Even after the things Julian said about her to Zero, he still offered her his help.

“Yeah,” Rae said, and then after a pause added, “he is really nice.”

Yes, he was. But as Lyra really thought about it, the warmth in her chest dissipated. She couldn’t be more grateful for Zero’s help, but the reality of what would happen if Julian found out about Zero’s help weighed down on her. She knew that he would assume the worst and would torment her severely for it.

Lyra found a new maid’s uniform on the bedside cabin, which Zero had apparently prepared for her. Just when she thought he couldn’t be more thoughtful. Since the room was empty, she rushed into the bathroom and cleaned up quickly before changing into the uniform.

Later, holding Julian’s robe in her hand, she caught a whiff of his scent…and something more. The smell of sex. It must have seeped into the fabric because she wore it for so long. Now, she felt even more embarrassed about Zero finding her. But that was not why her face was heating up…

“How was it?” Rae asked, reading her mind.

“What was what?” Lyra asked, feigning ignorance.

Her heart thundered in her chest as she noticed Julian at the front, addressing the guests. For a moment, she froze and watched him. It was unfair how good he looked. How could someone with such a handsome face be so cruel?

“I have an important announcement to make today,” he said, and Lyra turned to serve a couple of guests and collect some empty glasses.

She moved on to the next table, reminding herself to focus on her task and not on Julian’s voice slithering through the hall towards her like a spell. But she was just as curious as everyone else on what his important announcement was…

“I would like to introduce the one I have chosen to be my future queen,” he said. He held out his hand towards a beautiful brunette in a blue dress. “Crystal Black of the Blacksword Pack.”

Lyra was not aware of her tray slipping from her hands until the sound of breaking glass and a few shouts from surrounding guests reached her ears. People around her were stepping back and exclaiming, but she could barely hear them.

She had known what was bound to happen, but damn. Hearing him say those words in front of everyone hit hard. It felt like he had stabbed her right in her heart, and her body went weak, her legs feeling like jelly.

She felt faint and tried to hold on to the closest thing, but it turned out to be someone who stepped away from her in disgust. She stumbled to the floor as a dizziness spell hit her.
