With only a split second to decide, Lyra turned and rushed around the back of the building. She went around the far corner just as the two guards came around to her previous position.

“See?” one of them said. “I told you there was nothing. Our shift is over anyway, we are done here.”

“I must have imagined it,” the other one said. “Alright, let's go.”

The guards walked away and Lyra waited a while before looking around the building. After confirming that they were gone, she retraced her steps. It was a good thing that they were changing shifts, which would make it easier for her to slip past the most heavily guarded areas without notice.

It took her a while to get to the building that housed the dungeons. The place was more deserted than usual, which made it easier for her to sneak into the lower levels. The deserted hallways made the gloomy atmosphere even more noticeable, making her apprehensive of what she would find ahead.

Her plan was to find Zero and Anna and speak to them so she could know what was going on. She knew it must be a misunderstanding, so she wanted to get their side of the story before she confronted Julian.

Lyra's search took her to the farthest, most desolate cells in the dungeon. As she got closer, a painful cry pierced through the air, sending a chill through her bones.

“STOP!” A male voice screamed. “She did nothing wrong! Let her go!”

Lyra recognised Zero's voice right away. Keeping close to the wall, she shuffled stealthily towards the direction of the voice. Finally, she was able to look around a corner and into the cell where they were.

When her eyes finally made out the scene in front of her, her blood ran cold in her veins. She saw Anna tied to a wooden post in the middle of the cell, wearing a flimsy white gown that was stained red with blood. The dress was also torn in various places bearing what appeared to be whip marks.

Anna’s head hung forward limply, as if she was unconscious. In front of her stood a male with a familiar figure.

Lyra found herself shaking her head and muttering, “No.”

It couldn't be. Julian would not…
