Betrayed, But Not Defeated novel Chapter 19

Charlene was momentarily stunned when she heard Daniel's words. Then, she picked up her cutlery and put a piece of lamb into his bowl. "Alright, then! I'll graciously take you in.

"Don't worry. I'll ensure you have plenty to eat and drink with me around! I'll give you the best treatment!"

She wrinkled her nose, looking quite adorable.

Perhaps because the misunderstanding had been cleared up, Daniel found that her every move had a unique charm.

He licked his lips. Charlene's cooking was great, and the lamb was incredibly nourishing.

Charlene was excited today—Oscar's life was no longer in danger, and the company was coming back to life. Looking at Daniel's handsome face, she naturally drank more.

As the night grew dark and the wind howled, the villa was filled with the sounds of two people breathing heavily.

Charlene realized she had broken her word. The alcohol made it impossible for her to refuse Daniel.

This time, Daniel experienced a different kind of pleasure.

...

In the early morning, Daniel's phone rang suddenly.

"Mr. Ashcroft, I just received news that Omari is returning to Legate. Before that, he had the Keaton family from Gimlin sent to Qranross, probably to make a move against you!" Alden's voice was humble, with a hint of concern that he might disturb Daniel too early.

Daniel was unbothered. "The Keaton family, huh? Got it. Keep investigating and tell me immediately if there's anything new."

"Alright!" Alden quickly agreed, letting out a sigh of relief.

"Hmm? What's wrong?" Charlene mumbled sleepily, half awake.

"It's nothing." Daniel glanced at her, tucked the blanket around her, and got out of bed.

After a night of joy, he felt refreshed. With the morning sun rising, he sat cross-legged in the living room, absorbing spiritual energy.
