Selena immediately put her hands on her hips. "You guys are only here to witness this, so don't break the rules!"
At her words, the crowd could only laugh awkwardly and step aside to watch the show.
Although everyone knew Daniel was bound to lose, they were still curious about what he was up to. Besides, Ethan's earlier cryptic remark made them even more interested in what would happen next.
"Alright. How do you want it cut?" Bryson, who usually avoided physical labor, was so motivated by the million-dollar bet that he picked up the 30-pound stone and carried it to the cutting machine. He was afraid Daniel might back out.
"Cut it here," Daniel replied casually while gesturing.
To be fair, the stone wasn't entirely without merit. Though it showed no signs of being high-quality, it had no visible cracks. If luck was on his side, there might be an emerald inside. One clean cut could potentially produce two low-grade bracelets.
Everyone was wondering if Daniel was betting on this possibility.
"Alright. We'll cut it your way." Bryson quickly secured the stone and closed the machine, pressing the start button.
As the machine began to hum and vibrate, the cutting process started.
This also meant the bet was officially locked in. Bryson and Selena exchanged knowing smiles, as if they could already see the money flying toward them.
On the other hand, Daniel seemed completely indifferent to the stakes of the bet.
Finally, the machine stopped vibrating.
Bryson couldn't wait to open it. As the mist cleared, a collective sigh echoed from the crowd.
The first cut revealed nothing inside—no emerald, not even a trace of it. It was no different from an ordinary roadside rock.
"Looks like I'll be pocketing that one million dollars!" Bryson exclaimed smugly, looking at Daniel.
Daniel was his valuable resource, so Bryson was willing to show some patience.
