Chapter 12 Letting Go
“You’ve worked hard” Louis took a sip of the lemon water and said slowly.
“No, it’s nothing. I’m just at home all day, there’s nothing to bother me. You, on the other hand, have to face so many things outside. You must be really tired. Eat more.” Freya smiled.
In fact, just thinking about it, it was obvious. The Graham family had once been a family that others could not even aspire to. Louis‘ grandpa, Edward Graham, had been so influential that no one dared to confront the Graham family when he was alive. Louis, who had always been the most outstanding, had been constantly compared to by others and looked down upon while growing up. This alone had fueled much resentment over the years.
Now that Edward was gone, the other members of the Graham family only thought about how to divide up what was left of the family’s power. They couldn’t wait for Louis to fall, and would never extend a helping hand. Others just wanted to swallow the Graham family’s assets, and they were more than willing to kick Louis when he was down, relishing the chance to see someone who had once been untouchable now under their heel.
Freya had never understood while reading novels why Louis always refused to let his friends help him, even though accepting their help would have kept him from falling. Unfortunately, their relationship wasn’t great now, so she couldn’t ask. She figured that Louis, being once a big shot, must have his own reasons.
During the meal, Freya wasn’t sure how well Louis had caten, but she was fully satisfied. She guessed that Louis probably didn’t mind the food she made because he ate quite a bit.
