“No need to be polite. Once I make this round of money, life will finally get easier for us,” Freya said.

Ever since arriving in this world, she’d always felt like she was floating–like she didn’t really belong. But today, for the first time, she finally felt grounded.
The adaptation deal was proof that she could succeed here on her own merit. Freya had always been someone who lacked a strong sense of security, but now, with some real accomplishments under her belt, she felt stable–confident. No more pretending to be calm while secretly panicking. Now she had something solid to stand on, and she knew she could build a life for herself here.
As soon as they stepped into the private restaurant’s lobby, they bumped into someone vaguely familiar. Freya was still trying to place the middle–aged man when he stepped right into their path, his pudgy face lit up with gloating malice.
“Well, well, if it isn’t Mr. Louis,” he sneered. “Can’t believe I’d run into someone like you in a place like this. What an honor. Heard you’ve hit a rough patch in business lately. Could it be you can’t afford the good spots anymore, so you’ve lowered yourself to slumming it here? I mean, if you’re trying to impress a lady, shouldn’t you pick somewhere a little classier? This place doesn’t seem worthy of someone with your… reputation.”
Then the man turned to Freya and actually stepped closer. “Sweetheart, I bet you don’t even know that the man next to you is all face and no fortune now. You’d be better off with someone like me. At least I’ve still got some assets. Stick with him, and you’ll probably end up neck–deep in debt.”
That was when Freya remembered who he was. Back when the old Freya had first married into the Graham family, this man -one of their drivers–was fired by Louis for stealing. She’d only seen him a couple times, so it made sense she didn’t recognize him right away.
