It had to be his imagination. What could possibly be going on between Freya and his uncle? Their routine hadn’t changed at all–it was the same as ever. Since his vacation started, not a single ripple. Aiden shook his head and dismissed the weird thought from his mind.
With Aiden back and the good news from yesterday, Freya was still basking in delight. She immediately decided to go grocery shopping, darted into the bathroom to freshen up, grabbed her shopping bag–and as expected, Aiden followed right behind, absolutely determined to be her little shadow.
Louis didn’t react at all to Aiden’s behavior. He just gave a glance, then turned and went back to his room to take care of work. So Freya and Aiden went out together to shop. They bought loads of groceries–naturally including a bunch of snacks–and on the way back, Freya’s joy finally started to settle down.
And once she calmed down, she remembered what had happened during yesterday’s dinner. She pursed her lips and asked, “Aiden, if one day I’m not with your uncle anymore, would you still miss me?”
Aiden was holding a small bag and looked up, “Why wouldn’t you be with him? My uncle never said he didn’t want you”
See, that’s the thing. Even though Louis no longer had his former wealth, Aiden instinctively believed that as long as Louis didn’t reject her, she’d stay.
…Well, he had a point. Judging purely by criteria, Louis really was an exceptionally rare and outstanding husband candidate. But that only applied if he was her husband. Unfortunately, they weren’t a real couple. No matter how great Louis was, he had nothing to do with her.
