At first, Freya thought this was just a conflict of interest within the production team. But the more she looked into it, the more obvious it became–this mess was bigger than she’d expected. At first, she’d planned to wait it out and let the crew handle things. No need to pull Louis in unless she had to. But now? Yeah, it was time to give him a heads–up.
Right after she sent over her thoughts, her phone lit up–Louis was already calling.
He sounded relaxed, even a little amused. “Did I interrupt your writing? Don’t worry–I saw the situation early this morning and already have people digging into it. Kendrick thinks it’s Dean stirring things up behind the scenes. We’ll take care of it. You won’t have to worry about your name or your career.”
“I’m fine,” Freya said. “Worst case, I just switch to a new pen name. Adapting it for TV might get a little messy, but I’ll manage.” She’d almost said she was more concerned about him and Kendrick–but caught herself. Doubting your own man’s ability? That’s just dumb. So instead, she added, “But I trust you. You’ll take care of it–I know you will.”
Louis chuckled. “Of course I will. I mean, how could I not protect someone as clever and adorable as you?”
Freya blushed. “Alright, alright–that’s enough sweet talk. Go take care of your business. I won’t keep you.”
But Louis didn’t hang up right away. He stayed on the line, walking her through a few things in detail before saying goodbye, quietly proud of how sharp Freya had been in spotting the real situation behind the scenes.
Nearby, his assistant–who’d been waiting to give a report–was absolutely stunned. Everyone said Louis doted on his wife, but seeing it in person? That wasn’t just doting. That was treating her like she was the most important thing in the world. And that voice–so soft, so warm. For the first time, he realized Louis actually had a gentle side.
Just as Freya put her phone down, another message popped up–from Sophia.
“Freya, I still can’t get into my Twitter. Are you mad at me? Please don’t be. I’m trying to talk to my manager about it–it’s just a little complicated. Give me a little time, okay?”
Freya replied, “It’s fine. I get it Everyone’s just looking out for their own interests. No need to stress about it. Do what you’ve got to do.”
They were never real friends anyway, so why pretend? There was no point faking some deep

emotional bond just to act like they owed each other anything. That only made things awkward and messy.
Sophia shot back almost instantly. “You are mad, aren’t you? Please don’t be. This is on me. I didn’t handle it well. I don’t have a lot of pull, and my voice doesn’t carry much weight right now–but I’m trying. I’ll keep working on it with my manager, I promise. Just hang in there.”
Freya stared at the screen and laughed under her breath. As a novelist, Freya had done her. fair share of research. The moment she read that excuse, she couldn’t help but let out a sarcastic laugh. Does she really think I’m that naïve?
She knew full well that no matter how she responded, Sophia could twist her words later and use them against her. So this time, she didn’t reply at all. Silence opened up endless possibilities. Let her spin it however she wanted–Freya was curious to see what kind of story she’d come up with next.
The production team didn’t waste time. Soon after, Zane called. His tone was calm but firm— reassuring her that the team had been briefed and they were working on a solution. He promised they wouldn’t let her be mistreated.
Not long after, Daniel reached out too. His message was just as warm, offering comfort and support. Freya felt unexpectedly moved. “Thank you, Mr. Daniel. I’m doing okay, really. I can handle it. Appreciate the support.”
This whole mess? Way better than what she’d dealt with in the past. She’d been attacked over an adaptation before–not as badly, but she’d been completely alone then. No one to speak up, no one to lean on. This time, people reached out. Even if some of them had their own motives, it still meant something. And it warmed her heart more than she expected.
Freya kept checking Twitter, watching the drama unfold. Luckily, she had draft chapters saved up, so she kicked back with some snacks and watched the chaos unfold. She wasn’t upset–most of the people coming for her had no clue what they were talking about. One day, they were going to have to answer for it.
And eventually, they’d owe her an apology. She still had proof saved from earlier. So even if Louis and Kendrick chose to stay out of it, she’d still be ready to fight back when the time
