Something about that sentence struck a nerve in Ethan. Surprisingly, he didn’t argue–he just fell into deep thought. After a moment, he waved his hand to shoo Dean and Savannah away. Right before Savannah left, he added,
“Try getting in touch with Sebastian again; see if there’s still a chance. If there’s not, don’t act on your own, I have my own plan.”
No one could guess what he was really thinking, and Dean didn’t care to try; he could barely handle his own problems as it was. So he dragged Savannah away without another word.
After they left, Ethan picked up the phone and dialed a number. The call connected, and a young woman’s voice answered.
“Hey, dad? What a coincidence? I was just about to call you. I saw what was trending on Twitter today. People are so over–the–top about the tiniest things. Don’t take it to heart, Dad. Internet folks are forgetful; give it a little time and they’ll move on.”
“Sweetie, you’re always so thoughtful. Do you still have enough money? Want me to send you some more?”
“Daddy, I knew you loved me the most. It’s such a blessing to be your daughter.” Her voice sounded like it had been dipped in honey–syrupy sweet.
“By the way, I saw you broke up with that last boyfriend. Haven’t found someone new yet, have you? Do you know Louis? I’ve come to realize he’s a really good man. More importantly, he’s not actually in love with his wife. That woman’s got no power backing her up–divorce is just a matter of time.”
It didn’t take long for Ethan to reveal his true purpose.
“There are plenty of men in this circle, but barely any who can compare to Louis. With your status, it’s tough to marry into any of those families with elders still around pulling the strings. But Louis is on his own now–no one to tell him what to do. He’s a solid choice.”
Natalie definitely knew who Louis was. More than that, he was the man she had dreamed about for years. But as Ethan’s illegitimate daughter, someone like Louis was completely out of her league–an unreachable fantasy. So she had never dared to even entertain the idea.
She was no picture of purity herself. From a young age, she’d grown up watching her mother entangled with different men, and she had learned by example–only her tricks were even more refined.
With the money Ethan gave her, she played the part of a picture–perfect rich girl, all while enjoying the attention of her trust fund boyfriend and an ever–rotating lineup of backup

So when Ethan suddenly brought up Louis and hinted that he wanted to set her up with him, Natalie’s heart couldn’t help but race. That was the man she dreamed of having.
Natalie wasn’t like Savannah. She knew how to handle men, sure, but she didn’t know much about business. To her, Ethan was a powerful figure, after all, he was the one pulling strings to get her roles and helping her become at least a third–rate celebrity.
She never questioned why Ethan didn’t try to set up Savannah instead. Savannah was the Scott family’s legitimate daughter, she could stand in the light. Natalie, on the other hand, was meant to remain in the shadows; her path was always going to be some kind of arranged marriage.
She knew exactly what was going on between Savannah and Sebastian. In fact, she had once tried to seduce Sebastian herself, but he hadn’t fallen for it–not even a little. His heart was clearly set on Savannah.
After Ethan found out and warned her, she backed off for good. No matter how unreliable he seemed, Ethan was still the only person she could truly depend on.
“Daddy, a man like Mr. Graham is way out of my league. The gap between us is too big.” Even though she was dying to say yes, Natalie still managed to put on a show of modesty.
“What gap? He’s rich, you’re beautiful–you couldn’t be more perfect for each other.” Ethan wasn’t about to let her back out that easily.
“Listen, there’s a banquet tomorrow night, and Louis is definitely attending. I’ll get you an invitation too. Go with the flow, make the most of the opportunity. At the very least, get him to remember you. After that, I know you’ll know what to do. You’re my stunning. I don’t believe for a second that Louis won’t be interested.”
ghter–you’re
“Okay. If that’s what you want, daddy, then I’ll do it,” Natalie replied sweetly, keeping her excitement tightly under wraps.
“That’s my good girl. I’ll wire you some extra money–make sure you get yourself all dolled up,” Ethan said before hanging up. Moments later, Natalie received a bank transfer for 280,000 dollars.
