Did she really think they didn’t catch her subtle barbs? Trying to shift blame to someone else while implying Freya was petty for not forgiving her?

She was done with the act. Sophia had been the one who clung to her from the start, all

Either way, you don’t meet my standards for friendship. No need to force anything- we’re not from the same world, We weren’t close to begin with.”

Sophia was speechless. She never imagined Freya would be this blunt. Who even said things like that to someone’s face?

Seeing a window to retreat with dignity, Sophia seized the chance before Adeline could step in.

“If you don’t want to be friends, I understand,” she said quickly. “Apologizing was enough for me. As long as you’re willing to forgive me, that’s all I could ask for.”

It wasn’t perfect, but it would have to do. At least now, those two men from earlier wouldn’t dare bother her again–not after she’d been publicly dismissed by Louis Graham’s wife. They wouldn’t risk offending him just to mess with her.

It was a bitter thought.
