Freya chewed twice, then felt something warm at the corner of her lips—it turned out a little strand of orange fiber had stuck there, and Louis reached over to gently wipe it off.
There were so many people sitting around them, and when she caught a few stunned expressions nearby. her face immediately flushed red. Okay, okay, maybe she had dragged this celestial being down to earth herself, but could you blame her?
Up on stage, one of the men launched into a lengthy speech, perfectly showcasing the dignity of the current head of the Ruby family, along with his filial devotion and deep respect for his father.
Then came Andres‘ turn, expressing his heartfelt emotion over the younger generation’s respect and his satisfaction with their growth, sprinkled with some firm encouragement.
It was all very “fatherly love, obedient children,” making for quite the harmonious scene.
Freya had no real interest in all that. Her eyes were locked on Adeline instead, the longer she stared, the more she liked her. Before she knew it, her mind started spinning, already imagining novel plots.
Louis leaned closer, wanting to talk to her, only to find her brows lightly furrowed, her soft pink face scrunched ever so slightly, her gaze completely unfocused, off in some distant dreamland. The expression was spaced–out and adorably dazed.
No doubt about it, she’s off in her own world again, probably dreaming up some novel plot, Louis thought helplessly.
He almost reached out to pinch her cheek, but remembered the room full of people and restrained himself. He’d save it for later.
Ever since Freya had stopped pretending to be aloof all the time, she’d only become more and more adorable. Every night, he held her in his arms to sleep, and every night it drove him insane.
This little woman was either burrowing into his chest or curling up sweetly in his arms, sleeping like the cutest little kitten. She was just so soft and lovable–it was a constant test of his self–control.
But the thought of giving up sleeping next to Freya was just unbearable. Just last night, she insisted on finishing a novel before bed and fell asleep late. He ended up tossing and turning the whole night, completely restless.
At this point, he couldn’t even imagine life without her anymore–it was hopeless.
Louis, whose thoughts had drifted just as far, realized he needed to pick up the pace. At this rate, he wasn’t sure how much longer he could keep up the act.
He’d never known liking someone could feel like this. He constantly wanted to be near her. Just looking at her wasn’t enough–he wanted to hold her, kiss her, even do more intimate things. It was addictive. He really didn’t know how much longer he could hold out.
Across the table, Baylon caught Louis giving Freya a strange look–like… weirdly longing. He rubbed his eyes, convinced he was seeing things, then shook his head and turned away just as Louis gave him a sharp glance. He wisely refocused on the boring ceremony on stage.
“Hey, those three Ruby kids up there don’t really look alike. Are they even from the same mother?”

Louis, his gaze still deep as ever as he looked at Freya, was nudged lightly by her elbow. She was staring at the three young people onstage, gossiping quietly.
“Whether they are or not, only they know. But the public record says they’re from the same parents. Louis casually reached out and patted Freya’s head.
Freya pulled his hand off her head and held it in her own, leaning closer.
“I think Adeline’s the prettiest–she inherited all the best features from her parents. Her vibe is incredible too. So tell me, why didn’t you like her back then?”
The next moment, she felt the grip on her hand suddenly tighten. She winced and whispered, “Ouch.”
