A Second Chance At Forever novel (Eleanor and Bernard) novel Chapter 1544

Standing in the snow, Bernard barely managed to lift his slender fingers, waving at Cedric. Unable to bear it any longer, Cedric, with gritted teeth, hurried down the snowy mountain.

"Bernard, I'm going to call the doctor and send a drone up here, then I'll come back for you. Just wait for me—I'll be right back!"

Though the night was unpredictable, the blanket of snow illuminated the path like daylight, making Cedric's rush seem both urgent and directionless as he stumbled and fell multiple times in the snow...

Watching Cedric's figure disappear from sight, Bernard clutched his chest, feeling his heartbeat slow, and stood still, quietly enduring the pain of life's door quietly closing...

After what seemed like an eternity, when Eleanor came out looking for him, calling his name, Bernard turned his head through the dense trees, towards the figure pacing in the snow under an umbrella...

At one glance, it felt like millennia had passed, traversing through time and moments, back to when they first met. Only now, the sun was gone, leaving only the snowy gloom...

"Bernard!"

Eleanor, sensing something amiss after waiting for a while, pushed open the door of the villa opposite. Not finding Bernard, she looked around in confusion.

Bernard wanted to respond, "I'm here," but with blood streaming from his orifices, he couldn't reply as crisply and strongly as before, "Eleanor, I'm here."

Now, he could only open his eyes, which were nearly blind, turn around, and stagger deeper into the mountains...

The forest there was dense, and even with the snow lighting up the night sky, it was hard to see any figures moving—a perfect place to lay down for eternity.

Bernard thought, with the ice and snow preserving his body, even if wild animals passed by, they wouldn't be able to mar his flesh. Thus, buried under the snow, his features would be preserved...

In years to come, if Eleanor realized the robot was a fake, and if, by some chance, Cedric found him, he wouldn't frighten her.

After all, Eleanor had said she was drawn to his looks before falling for him. Even in death, he couldn't ruin the image she had of him...

Leaning on a tree, Bernard felt the chip, along with his rolling blood, roam freely in his brain, severing a nerve each time, causing blood to gush forth until blood spurted from his mouth, signaling death's approach. There was no escape...

Standing there for a brief moment, his tall and straight figure then collapsed to the ground like a soulless puppet...

Although life had left him, he mustered his last bit of strength to slowly look up, watching the snowflakes, like silver frost, dance in the air...

These snowflakes, falling one after another, landed on his eyelashes, nose, and cheeks...

With the snow as his companion, Bernard seemed like a reflection in the water, a moon in the clouds, an image in the mirror, his beauty unmatched by time or anything in the world...

He looked up with such a face, through the snowflakes, to see Eleanor approaching with a transparent umbrella, seemingly asking, "Hey, why are you covered in blood?"
