In the snowy wilderness, Eleanor halted abruptly, as if hearing a call meant for her soul alone. She turned around, her gaze sweeping the desolate expanse, but there was no one there. She stood frozen, a hand pressed to her chest, feeling the rapid beat of her heart, followed by a pain so sharp it bent her double, as if she was about to lose something precious.
Intuition screamed that something had happened to Bernard. She attempted to gather her strength to continue her search when suddenly, a figure of captivating grace appeared before her, holding a rose against the stark white of the snow.
"Honey, didn't I tell you to wait for me? Why did you wander off here?"
The moment Eleanor saw Bernard unharmed, the anxiety that had constricted around her heart dissolved. Indeed, as long as he was safe, her world was at peace.
Dropping her umbrella, she sprinted towards him like a deer, relief and joy propelling her into his arms. The warmth from his body and his familiar scent enveloped her, easing her worries.
"Darling, you have no idea how scared I was. I thought something terrible had happened to you," she confessed, her voice muffled against his chest.
Bernard's fingers brushed through her hair with a tenderness that spoke of deep affection. "I've always promised to be by your side. Why would I leave you worrying?"
Nestled in his embrace, Eleanor nodded, her arms tightening around him. But then, her fingers stumbled upon something unexpected, and she pushed him away abruptly.
"You... You're not my Bernard!"
The Bernard she knew had lost weight recently, to the point where her fingers could almost meet around his waist. But the man before her was as sturdy and robust as ever.
He was not her Bernard.

Loved the story, many times caught in so much actually crying with the situation. Wish had more chapters to a better ending....
It's weird that the story went from narrative to slang use. Good story so far though...
