I didn’t like how quiet the pack house felt without Alexander. I thought I would be totally used to it by now, considering how often it happened, but no.
To be honest, I think it was something everyone noticed. I could feel it in the general energy around the house.
Or maybe that was just me.
Either way, I couldn’t sit still.
Cole wasn’t around either, which made things worse. If he had been, I wouldn’t have had to think about anything. He wouldn’t even let me stress about things. He would have handled whatever needed handling, taken the pressure off without even making it obvious.
But he wasn’t here.
Which left me in charge of everything. The same me who didn’t know what to do with myself, let alone an entire pack.
I silently hoped and prayed to the goddess that nothing serious would come up in Alexander’s absence.
I exhaled slowly, smoothing my hand absentmindedly against my side as I walked, my mind already trying to organize itself.
I could at least check the office.
See if anything needed attention.
It wasn’t much, but it was something.
I had just turned down the corridor leading to Alexander’s office when I heard footsteps behind me.
I didn’t need to turn.
I already knew who it was.
Roman.
He didn’t try to hide it either.
“I’m coming with you, Luna,” he said. “I hope you don’t mind.”
I stopped.
Turned slightly to look at him.
There was something almost strange about that statement coming from him so casually.
My brows pulled together faintly.

“Coming with me?” I repeated. “Why?”
He shrugged a little, like it wasn’t a big deal.
“I have nothing to do,” he said. “And I’m tired of staying in my room every time.”
I stared at him for a second.
Because that-
That was new.
Roman, voluntarily leaving his room?
Without being asked?
Without being forced to come down to the dining room by me or Alexander.
Without it being time for training?
Without Alexander

“Fine,” I said, turning back around and continuing down the hall “Come”
He didn’t say anything else.
Just fell into step beside me.
For a while, neither of us spoke.
The silence wasn’t uncomfortable.
Just… there.
I found myself glancing at him once or twice without meaning to.
Trying to figure him out today.
Or maybe just trying to make sense of everything that had been happening lately.
We turned the last corner leading to Alexander’s office.
And that was when I saw him.
Ethan.
He was standing just outside the door.
Like he was waiting for someone.
The moment his eyes landed on me, he straightened immediately.
Then lowered his head respectfully.
“Luna.”
The greeting was calm.
Like nothing had happened.
Like there wasn’t anything hanging between us.
And that-
That made it worse somehow.
I slowed to a stop, a small flicker of discomfort settling in my chest.
This would be the first time.
Face to face.
Since the training ground.
Since-
I pushed the thought away quickly.

Ethan didn’t look like he was holding onto it.
No tension.
No resentment.
Nothing in his expression suggested he was even thinking about it.
If anything, he looked… normal.
Composed.
Respectful.
Like always.
I wasn’t sure what I had expected.
But it wasn’t this.
It made me feel strangely awkward.
Like I was the only one carrying the weight of it.
I considered apologizing to him again, but I realized that would only make everything worse for me.
I cleared my throat lightly, shifting my attention to him properly.
“Ethan, what do you want? Is there a problem?” I asked.
My tone wasn’t harsh.
But I was sure I sounded too stiff.
