A Warrior's Second Chance (Faye and Alexander) novel Chapter 438

Chapter 438

Chapter 438

ROMAN

I stepped out of her room without saying another word.

The door closed quietly behind me, but the silence that followed didn’t feel quiet at all. It pressed against me, hard.

I didn’t look back.

There was nothing else to say to her for now.

My steps carried me down the hallway on their own. Helen’s words stayed with me, repeating in a way that made them impossible to ignore.

A wolf boy.

Struggling to get a grip on what I am.

My jaw tightened slightly.

I kept walking.

Out.

Away from that place, because I needed to.

I needed space-not to think, but to move. Because if I stayed still for too long, I knew exactly

what would happen. I would start questioning things I didn’t have time to question.

And right now, that wasn’t something I could afford.

I had already decided.

I just needed to follow through.

I turned the corner that led toward the exit, my mind already moving ahead of me-toward what I needed to do next-

“Roman.”

I stopped.

I turned slightly.

Martha stood a few steps away, watching me with that familiar, gentle look that didn’t quite

fit the rest of the house when things were tense like this.

“Breakfast is ready,” she said.

For a second, I almost said no.

It was the first instinct that came to mind.

I wasn’t hungry.

Not even close.

The thought of food didn’t sit right-not with the weight of what I was carrying at the back of my mind.

But then-

Luna Faye.

The thought came just as quickly.

If I didn’t show up, she would notice.

She always did.

And she wouldn’t just ignore it. She would ask. She would come looking. She would make it something it didn’t need to be.

And that-

That would only add to her stress.

She didn’t need that right now.

So instead of refusing, I gave a small nod.

“Okay.”

Martha’s expression softened slightly, like she had expected resistance and was relieved not to get it.

I didn’t wait for anything else.

I turned and headed toward the dining room.

By the time I reached the dining room, I slowed.

Something felt… off.

Chapter 438

I stepped inside.

And stopped.

It was empty.

Completely.

No movement, no voices.

Nothing.

Only one side of the table was set.

One plate, one glass, one place.

I turned slightly as Martha stepped in behind me.

“Where is everyone?” I asked.

She paused, then answered simply.

“The Alpha and Luna won’t be coming down for breakfast.”

Her tone was careful.

Neutral.

“So it’s just you.”

I nodded once.

“Thank you.”

I didn’t ask anything else.

There was no point.

I walked over and sat down, the chair pulling back with a soft sound against the floor before! lowered myself into it.

The food was there.

I looked at it for a moment.

Then looked away.

Of course they weren’t coming.

Chapter 438

How could they?

With everything they were dealing with today…

The ritual.

The risk.

The decisions being made behind closed doors.

No one in their position would be thinking about food.

They wouldn’t even be able to stomach it.

I couldn’t either.

I picked up the fork anyway.

Not because I wanted to eat.

But because sitting there doing nothing would feel worse.

I pushed the food around slightly, barely paying attention to what it was.

My thoughts had already drifted.

Back.

To Helen and everything she said.

The words echoed again.

Then, all of a sudden, I felt something strange.

It wasn’t gradual.

It wasn’t subtle.

It hit all at once.

Like something inside me reacted before I could.

Before I could prepare for it.

My grip tightened slightly around the fork as I felt it-

That familiar pull.

But stronger.

< Chapter 438

Sharper.

Like something in me was snapping into place.

My chest tightened.

My breath slowed without me meaning it to.

And then-

It surged with more force.

My wolf.

It was not just restless now.

It felt like it was trying to break through.

THIRD POV

The fork slipped from Roman’s grip and clattered softly against the plate before dropping onto the table.

He didn’t react to the sound.

His eyes were already shut tight, his expression tightening as the force hit him fully this time -sharp, overwhelming, like something inside him was pushing outward all at once.

His hand shot forward, gripping the edge of the table hard enough for his knuckles to pale.

His breathing changed.

Short.

Controlled-but barely.

The pain wasn’t clean.

It spread.

Through his chest.

Up his spine.

Into his head.

He could hear it.
