Chapter 468
FAYE
I didn’t realize we had crossed into Stonevale territory until James finally spoke.
“We’re in.”
I looked up immediately.
For a second, I just stared through the windshield quietly.
The environment had changed so gradually during the drive that I hadn’t noticed exactly when Blood Crescent land ended, let alone when we had come this far.
But now that James mentioned it… I could feel the difference.
Stonevale somehow felt darker.
Not physically.
Just… heavier.
The woods surrounding the road were denser here, the trees taller and packed closer together, like they were hiding something between them. Even the air felt different once the car windows cracked slightly
open.
It reminded me of Silver Hollow.
I leaned back slightly in my seat as my eyes scanned outside carefully.
This was it.
The place where all of this started.
The place connected to the mark on my wrist.
The place where somebody needed me dead badly enough to curse me first.
Oddly enough, my heartbeat remained calm.
Maybe because the fear had already settled inside me long ago.
Or maybe because once you knowingly walked into danger, your mind stopped wasting energy panicking
over it.
James slowed the car slightly as the road split ahead.
“Looks like we’ll need directions,” he muttered.
I nodded absentmindedly.
A few seconds later, we spotted two people standing near what looked like a rundown wooden structure

beside the road.
Neither of them looked particularly welcoming.
James stopped the vehicle.
The two men immediately looked toward us.
No, not us… me.
Even through the windshield, I could already feel the way their eyes lingered too long.
Sizing me up.
James rolled the window down slightly.
“Could you point us toward the pack house?” he asked simply.
One of the men folded his arms.
The other smirked lazily.
Neither answered immediately.
I already knew that look.
Men like this existed everywhere.
The kind who enjoyed making people wait simply because they could.
James‘ expression hardened slightly.
“We asked for directions.”
Still no response.
One of them finally leaned down slightly toward the window.
“Who’s asking?”
James looked like he was already losing patience.
I exhaled quietly before reaching for my seatbelt.
James immediately noticed
“Luna,” he said sharply “Don’t.”
I glanced at him briefly.

“It’s fine,” I said quickly, hoping the men didn’t catch the Luna part. “I can handle this
His jaw tightened.
Clearly, he didn’t like the idea of me stepping out here surrounded by unfamiliar wolves

But I wasn’t exactly helpless.
Sick or not, I could still handle myself if things got ugly.

And judging from the way these two were acting, they would probably keep dragging this out unless they got the reaction they wanted.
So before James could argue further, I pushed the door open and stepped out.
The moment my boots touched the ground, both men straightened slightly.
Their eyes moved over me openly now.
Cocky.
Amused.
Like they were trying to figure out whether I was worth taking seriously.
I ignored the look completely.
Instead, I gave them a polite smile.
“Good afternoon.”
Neither returned the greeting.
Shocking.
I folded my arms lightly instead.
“I’m looking for your pack house,” I explained calmly. “I need to see Darren.”
The moment I said the name, something shifted in their expressions.
Not shock exactly.
Recognition.
Clearly, they knew exactly who I meant despite me not inentioning a last name.
One of them raised an eyebrow.
“And what do you want with Darren?”
The tone alone made it obvious he wasn’t genuinely asking because he cared
They were dragging this out intentionally
Probably entertaining themselves
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
Honestly, I didn’t have the patience for territorial ego games today
The second man tilted his head slightly.
Chapter 462
“You from around here?”
“No”
Of course he already knew that.
“You got a name?” the other one asked.
I smiled faintly.
“Do you always interrogate strangers asking for directions?”
That actually made one of them laugh.
Not kindly.
More like he found my attitude amusing.
James had stepped out of the vehicle now too.
I could practically feel his restraint from where I stood.
He was letting me handle it-
Barely.
The wolves noticed him too.
Their expressions shifted slightly at his size alone.
But instead of becoming cautious, they just seemed more entertained now.
Definitely messing with us on purpose.
Fine.
If they wanted something, I’d give them something and move on with my life.
I turned back toward the car casually and reached inside through the open door for my purse.
Then I pulled out some cash.
The movement immediately caught their attention.
Of course it did,
I walked back toward them calmly before extending the money toward the closer one.

“This is all the cash I have on me,” I said smoothly. “Now, if you’d be kind enough to point me toward the pack house, I’d appreciate it.”
The waif stared at the money briefly before smirking
There it is.
That was what they wanted.
Chapter 46
Not power… not intimidation.
Just opportunists trying to make quick money off travelers.
Pathetic.
He took the cash immediately.
Then finally jerked his thumb toward the left road.
“Straight ahead until you hit the ridge,” he said. “You’ll see the main gates from there.”
I nodded once.
“Thank you.”
The second wolf leaned slightly closer.
“You sure Darren’s gonna want to see you?”
I met his eyes calmly.
“Oh, I think he will.”
Something about my tone made his smirk falter just slightly.
Not enough for him to question further, though.
Good.
I turned without another word and walked back toward the vehicle.
James opened the passenger door for me silently.
The moment I got back inside, I shut the door and exhaled quietly.
James looked at me.
“You heard them?” I asked.
He nodded once as he started the engine again.
“Yes, Luna.”
Then the vehicle slowly pulled back onto the road and began driving
