A Warrior's Second Chance (Faye and Alexander) novel Chapter 513

ALEXANDER

The moment I stepped out of the office, my attention shifted away from work entirely.

For the first time since arriving back at the pack house, I wasn’t thinking about any of the responsibilities

waiting for me.

I was thinking about Faye.

I paused briefly in the hallway before looking back through the open office door.

Where’s Faye?I asked.

Cole looked up.

His expression remained neutral.

I think she’s somewhere around the pack house.

I frowned.

You think?

I haven’t seen her for a little while.

He set the paper in his hand aside.

But she was here earlier,he added.

I leaned against the doorframe.

Here?

Cole nodded.

In the office.

I knew Faye was healthy now. There hadn’t been anything odd about her behaviour lately except for the fact that she seemed to be hyperactive

That in itself wasn’t considered a problemat least not to me.

But I still felt the need to keep a close watch for now.

I glanced down the hallway.

Did she say where she was going?

No.

Of course she hadn’t.

duper slo

That »uld have made things far too easy.

sighed quietly

Alright.

I’d been gone for several hours.

Faye had every reason to be annoyed with me.

Possibly more than annoyed.

I wasn’t entirely sure yet.

I’ll find her.

Cole simply nodded.

I left the office and started down the hallway.

The pack house wasn’t particularly loud at this hour.

Most people were occupied with their own responsibilities.

A few wolves greeted me as I passed.

I returned the greetings automatically.

My thoughts were elsewhere.

Specifically on the conversation I was probably going to have with my mate.

I reached into my pocket and pulled out my phone.

Then I dialed her number.

The call connected immediately.

The ringing filled my ear.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

No answer.

I frowned slightly.

The ringing continued.

Still nothing.

Eventually, the call disconnected.

Lowered the phone and stared at the screen for a second.

Then I sighed.

That wasn’t exactly encouraging.

Maybe she hadn’t heard it.

Maybe she was busy

Or maybe she had seen my name and decided I could suffer for a while for ignoring her all day.

Honestly, I couldn’t blame her if that was the case.

Leaving without informing her had probably not been my smartest decision.

At the time, it had seemed simpler.

I hadn’t wanted her worrying unnecessarily.

Unfortunately, the intentions didn’t automatically make the decision less stupid.

Especially since it was a habit she had complained about a couple of times.

I slid the phone back into my pocket and continued walking.

The longer I searched, the more aware I became of how tired I actually was.

The day had been longer than expected.

And now that I was back home, the exhaustion I’d been ignoring was beginning to catch up with me.

I rubbed the back of my neck.

Maybe I should freshen up first.

Then find Faye afterward.

At least then I’d look slightly less exhausted when I attempted to explain myself.

Hopefully, she wasn’t too angry to hear me out.

That was probably wishful thinking.

Still

A man could hope.

I changed direction and headed toward our chambers.

I barely paid attention to where I was going.

A few minutes later, I stepped inside.

The sitting area was empty.

Quiet

No sign of Faye

I continued into the bedroom:

Then stopped.

My gaze landed immediately on the bed.

Specifically, on the object resting in the middle of it.

Faye’s phone.

I stared at it for a second.

Then walked over and picked it up.

The screen lit instantly.

My missed call was sitting right there.

I exhaled.

Well.

That explained why she hadn’t answered.

She hadn’t even been carrying the thing.

I rubbed my temple.

For most people, this would be reassuring.

4

Most people would see their mate’s phone sitting at home and immediately conclude that she couldn’t be

far away.

Maybe another room.

Maybe downstairs.
