Chapter 521
JASON
We had exhausted every idea that came to mind.
None of them solved the problem.
None of them even brought us any closer to understanding who was behind everything.
I slowly pushed my chair back and rose to my feet.
“I think that’s enough for today,” I said.
Jace nodded in agreement.
“I’ll keep reviewing the reports,” Jace said. “If anything stands out, you’ll be the first to know.”
“I’ll do the same,” Owen added. “Perhaps we’ve overlooked something.”
“I hope so,” I replied.
Neither of them had anything else to add.
Jace gathered the folder he had brought with him, while Owen collected the scattered documents from my desk. They both offered brief nods before making their way toward the door.
“We’ll leave you to it,” Owen said.
“Thank you,” I replied.
The door closed quietly behind them.
Silence immediately reclaimed the office.
I stood there for several moments without moving.
Then I walked away from my desk and made my way toward the large window overlooking part of the pack grounds.
My hands slipped into my pockets as I stared outside without really focusing on anything.
Wolves moved about the territory as they always did.
Warriors trained in the distance.
Chapter 521
Life continued.
As though Silver Hollow hadn’t just suffered one of the worst setbacks in recent years.
My gaze eventually drifted toward the training field.
Several younger wolves were practicing under supervision.
Among them stood Sage.
She was speaking to two warriors while gesturing toward another section of the field.

A moment later, she turned her attention to a few younger wolves, correcting their posture before sending them back into formation.
Even from this distance, I could see the confidence in the way she carried herself.
She looked every bit the Luna of Silver Hollow.
Graceful, composed.
Approachable.
The wolves listened to her.
They respected her.
She knew exactly how to present herself before the pack.
No one looking at her from out there would ever question whether she belonged beside an Alpha.
I watched as one of the younger wolves said something that earned a small laugh from her.
The tension on their faces eased immediately.
She had always been good at that-making people comfortable when she wanted to.
Making herself seem warm.
I let out a slow breath.
She played the role well.
Very well.
Unfortunately… being a good Luna and being a good mate weren’t always the same thing.
My eyes remained fixed on the field.

Chapter 521
Somehow, despite sharing the same home…
Despite sharing the same bed…
I had never felt more alone.
When problems like these arose, I found myself carrying them by myself.
Not because Sage refused to listen.
She simply…
Didn’t.
Her attention rarely stayed on matters like this for very long.
Politics bored her.
Trade meant little to her.
Council meetings were something she endured rather than participated in.
Whenever I tried explaining complicated situations, she usually found a way to steer the conversation somewhere lighter.
Or she’d tell me everything would work itself out.
Sometimes she was trying to comfort me.
Sometimes she simply didn’t know what else to say.
Either way…
It left me exactly where I had started.
Alone with the problem.
I wasn’t expecting Sage to solve everything.
I wasn’t asking for impossible answers.
Sometimes…
I simply wanted someone willing to sit with me through the uncertainty.
Someone willing to listen while I tried to make sense of everything myself.
Someone who could look at me and say, “We’ll figure this out together.”

Instead…
Most days, it felt as though I was carrying the weight of the entire pack on my own
shoulders.
I closed my eyes briefly before opening them again.
Maybe I was being unfair.
Maybe this simply wasn’t her strength.
Not everyone processed responsibility the same way.
Still…
That didn’t change how lonely it could feel.
Especially now.
Especially when every answer I searched for seemed to disappear before I could reach it.
I sighed quietly and rested one hand against the window frame.
Staying inside this office wasn’t helping.
The reports weren’t going anywhere.
Neither were the unanswered questions.
Claim
If I remained here much longer, I’d only end up reading the same pages over and over again, hoping they’d somehow tell me something different.
They wouldn’t.
I needed air.
Even if only for a little while.
I turned away from the window, straightened my jacket, and headed toward the door.
Without another glance back at the mountain of reports covering my desk, I stepped out of the office and made my way toward the training field.

Chapter 522-1
THIRD POV
The air was cool enough to clear his head, though not enough to ease the weight pressing against his shoulders.
His hands rested inside the pockets of his trousers as he walked across the courtyard at an unhurried pace.
Not far from the main training grounds, a group of younger wolves was running through formation drills.
Several older warriors stood nearby, correcting stances and barking instructions whenever someone made a mistake.
Jason’s attention shifted toward the center of the field.
He was watching Sage again, and he couldn’t stop thinking…
She carried herself naturally before the wolves.
She knew how to command attention without raising her voice.
Whenever ceremonies needed organizing, Sage handled them effortlessly.
Whenever visitors arrived, she represented Silver Hollow flawlessly.
She knew how to smile.
How to speak.
How to appear reassuring.
Eventually, Sage noticed him standing there.
She excused herself from the wolves with a small nod before making her way toward him.
The young wolves resumed their practice without needing further instruction.
By the time Sage reached him, a faint smile rested on her face.
“I didn’t expect to find you out here,” Sage said.
Jason returned the smile, though only faintly.
“I needed some air,” Jason said.

Sage studied him for a brief moment before glancing back toward the wolves.
“They’re improving. The younger ones still lack discipline, but they’ll get there,” Sage said.
Jason followed her gaze.
“They listen to you,” Jason said.
“They usually do,” Sage said.
Jason nodded. “They respect you,” Jason said.
“I’ve worked for that respect,” Sage said.
Jason nodded slowly.
“I can see that,” Jason said.
A small smile appeared on Sage’s face.
“Thank you,” Sage said.
For a few seconds, neither of them spoke.
The silence wasn’t uncomfortable.
Not at first.
Jason continued watching the training field.
“You’ve been doing well with them,” Jason said eventually.
“I appreciate the compliment,” Sage said.
Jason nodded absentmindedly.
“You make a very good Luna in front of the pack,” Jason said.
She held his gaze for another moment.
Then one of her eyebrows lifted slightly.
“There it is,” Sage said.
