Chapter 523-1

THIRD POV

Jason remained silent for several long moments. He looked at Sage, but whatever words had been on the tip of his tongue gradually faded away, His shoulders rose and fel! with a slow, weary breath before he finally shook his head.

“Forget it,” Jason said quietly.

There was no anger left in his voice. There was no frustration either. All that remained was exhaustion. He

had reached the point where continuing the conversation no longer seemed worthwhile

Without waiting for Sage to respond, Jason turned around and began walking away from her. His steps were calm at first, but they gradually became quicker as he put more distance between himself and the

conversation he no longer wished to have.

Sage stared after him, her chest rising and falling with restrained irritation. She couldn’t believe he was

simply walking away after saying something like that. The tightness in her jaw became more pronounced

as annoyance continued to build inside her.

Then, almost on impulse, she called after him.

“Oh, I see,” Sage said, her voice carrying a mocking edge.

Jason ignored her.

“If it makes you feel any better,” Sage said, “Faye is coming home soon.”

Jason slowed to a stop.

He didn’t turn around.

He simply stood there with his back to her, waiting in silence.

A faint, sarcastic smile appeared on Sage’s lips as she watched him.

Jason remained motionless.

Not a single muscle moved.

Sage folded her arms across her chest before continuing.

“I thought you’d like to know.”

There was still no response from him.

She allowed the silence to linger for a moment before speaking again

“You’ll finally get your wish for a couple of days.”

A short, mocking laugh escaped her lips.

“Who knows?” Sage continued with a shrug “Maybe the two of you can even hook up for old times’ sake.”

The words lingered between them.

Jason remained standing exactly where he was.

Nearly a full minute passed in complete silence.

His posture stayed rigid, and his hands slowly clenched into fists before relaxing again. Even then, he never looked back at her. He didn’t acknowledge her words, nor did he attempt to defend himself.

Eventually, he drew in another slow breath.

Without saying a single word, Jason began walking again.

His pace remained steady as he continued toward the pack house, leaving Sage exactly where she stood.

Sage watched him disappear into the distance, and the silence that followed irritated her even more than

if he had argued back.

She had expected something. She had expected him to deny what she had implied, to lose his temper, or

at least to respond.

Instead, he had given her absolutely nothing.

It felt as though she had thrown every one of her words at a solid wall.

Her lips pressed into a thin line as she continued staring after him long after he had disappeared from

sight.

Only then did she release the breath she hadn’t realized she had been holding.

Her chest rose and fell heavily as she stood there, panting with anger while watching the direction Jason

had gone.

JASON

By the time I reached the pack house, the conversation with Sage was still echoing inside my head

Every word.

Every accusation.

Every unnecessary jab she had thrown at me.

I climbed the stairs without speaking to anyone. A few servants greeted me as I passed, but I barely acknowledged them. Right now, I wasn’t in the mood for conversation

I pushed open the door to my chambers and immediately loosened the collar of my shirt

I needed to cool off.
