Chapter 524-
Chapter 524
BLOOD CRESCENT
THIRD PERSON
Helen had just finished arranging a few Rowers by the sitting room window when her phone began to
She glanced toward the coffee table where she had left it moments earlier.
The moment she saw the caller’s name, a warm smile spread across her face.
“Irene.”
Without wasting another second, she picked up the phone and answered.
“Hello, sweetheart,” Helen said.
“Hi, Mom. I hope I didn’t catch you at a bad time,” Irene replied warmly.
Helen smiled as she slowly settled onto the sofa.
“You could never call at a bad time. I’m always happy to hear your voice,” Helen said.
“Good. I was hoping you’d say that,” Irene said with a soft laugh.
Helen leaned comfortably against the backrest.
“How have you been?” Helen asked.
“I’ve been alright. Busy as always,” Irene replied. “Actually, that’s partly why I called. I wanted to check or you… and also let you know that I’ll be coming home next week.”
Helen’s face lit up.
“Really?” Helen asked.
“Yes,” Irene replied.
Helen’s smile widened.
“I’ve missed you,” Helen said
“I’ve missed you too, Mom,” Irene replied with a laugh
For a brief moment, neither of them spoke
Helen broke the silence first
“Have you heard from your brother recently?” Helen asked
“Actually, yes,” Irene replied, nodding even though Helen couldn’t see her
Helen’s expression brightened further.
Chapter 524
The last time we spoke was a few days ago,” Irène replied.
Helen listened quietly.
“He called me to ask what groceries he should buy for you,” Irene continued.
Helen couldn’t help laughing a little.
Before she could respond, Irene suddenly gasped.
“Oops,” Irene said.
Helen raised an eyebrow.
“What is it?” Helen asked.
“I wasn’t supposed to tell you that,” Irene replied with a dramatic groan.
Helen chuckled.
“What did you do now?” Helen asked.
Irene laughed at herself.
“Alexander wanted you to think he picked everything himself,” Irene said playfully before sighing.
Helen laughed softly.
The image of Alexander standing in a grocery store trying to decide what to buy brought genuine
amusement to her.
That was exactly the sort of thing her son would never willingly admit to anyone.
“Don’t worry. I’ll pretend I never heard that,” Helen said with a fond smile.
“Please do,” Irene replied with a laugh.
Helen shook her head affectionately.
For a few precious seconds, everything felt normal.
Just a mother talking to her daughter.
Just another ordinary afternoon.
Then a sharp ache suddenly spread through Helen’s chest.
The smile on her face faltered.
She pressed one hand lightly against her ribs.
Another cough escaped her lips.
She quickly turned her head away from the phone.
The coughing became stronger.
Cla
Chapter 524
Then stronger still.
Helen hurriedly covered her mouth with her free hand.
When she finally managed to stop, she slowly looked down.
Bright red blood stained her palm,
For a long second, she simply stared at it.
There was more this time.
Far more than before.
Her breathing became uneven.
She quietly reached for the handkerchief resting beside her and wiped her hand before another cough
threatened to escape.
Unfortunately, she wasn’t quick enough.
The sound carried clearly through the phone.
“Mom?” Irene asked immediately.
Helen closed her eyes for a brief second.
“Are you alright?” Irene asked.
Helen forced herself to breathe normally before answering.
“I’m fine,” Helen replied.
There was another pause.
“Are you sure?” Irene asked, still sounding uncertain.
Helen smiled despite the blood she had just wiped away.
“Of course. I just caught a little cough,” Helen replied lightly. She cleared her throat genth). You know how the weather has been lately.”
“I was worried for a second,” Irene said.
Helen laughed softly.
“There’s nothing to worry about,” Helen replied
She discreetly folded the stained handkerchief and placed it beside her, making sure not to look at it
again.
She didn’t want to think about what it meant.
Not now.
Chapter 524
Not while speaking to Irene
She refused to burden her daughter with worries she couldn’t solve.
Instead, she shifted the conversation.
“Has Alexander mentioned anything to you about the family get-together? Helen asked
“The family get-together?” Irene repeated after a short silence
Cla
“Yes. I mentioned it to him when he came around recently. I thought perhaps he’d have spoken to you by
now,” Helen replied.
“No, he hasn’t mentioned anything,” Irene said.
Helen looked mildly surprised.
“Really? I suppose he’s been busy,” Helen said.
“What’s the occasion?” Irene asked with a smile.
Helen’s expression softened.
“There doesn’t have to be an occasion,” Helen replied. She paused briefly before continuing just though it would be nice for all of us to spend a day together. Just the family. We could have a meal, talk, relax, an spend some time together. Nothing more… nothing less.”
Irene listened quietly.
There was something strangely sweet about the suggestion.
In all the years she could remember, Helen had never specifically organized a family gathering simply for the sake of being together.
Birthdays? Yes.
Holidays? Of course.
But this?… This felt different.
Still, Irene didn’t question it.
Perhaps her mother simply missed everyone
It wasn’t impossible.

After all, Alexander had become busier than ever, and trene herself had spent most of her time with Jeff and her own responsibilities
Maybe Helen simply wanted all her children under one roof again
The thought made Irene smile.
“That actually sounds nice, Irene said.
Chapter 524
Helen’s face brightened.
“You think so?” Helen asked.
“Of course. I’ll be there, and I’l make sure-Jeff comes too,” Irene replied.
Helen smiled warmly.
“Good. I’d like that very much,” Helen said.
“I know Faye would love it. I hope you can get the boys to cooperate too,” Irene said with a laugh.
Helen laughed as well.
Clain
“That might be the hardest part,” Helen replied. “Getting Alex and Cole away from work is something else But I know Faye can handle them.”
