A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 109

The moment she answered, Quentin's voice poured through the speaker—sweet, gentle, and aggressively coaxing.

[Winifred, you and the kids have been gone for a few days. How are you holding up?]

Winifred knew a snake in the grass when she heard one. She stayed completely silent, waiting for the punchline.

Quentin continued, [Staying in a hotel with the babies is so expensive, and it can't be comfortable. Just come home.]

Winifred decided to force his hand. [Thanks for the concern, Quentin. If that's all, I'm hanging up.]

Quentin panicked. [Wait, wait, wait! I actually need to talk to you about something else.]

He immediately pivoted to Iris's agenda.

[Winifred, I need a huge favor. Could you run over to the Sutton estate? You know, the third most powerful family in Kingsbridge? I need you to drop off two bottles of your custom muscle recovery spray.]

Judging by his tone, Iris and Holden definitely hadn't told him she was already the Sutton family's private doctor. Quentin was completely in the dark. This was the perfect opportunity to play along.

[Fine.]

Quentin sounded thrilled. [Winifred, are you finally cooling off?]

Winifred ignored the bait.

Then came the sheer audacity.

[Winifred, I'm just going to be honest with you. Iris is at the Sutton estate right now, and she's the one who asked for the spray. Holden was attacked by some lunatic a few days ago and hurt his leg. Also, Iris's brother just married Yvonne Sutton, so they're all family now. And families should support each other, right? We should be happy for them. A harmonious family is the foundation of a stable society!

I'm only saying this because I want to help you see reason. Your drama with Holden was three years ago. Whatever grudge you're holding, you need to let it go. There's no point in fighting him anymore.

Quentin's voice practically sang with joy. [Perfect! Bring the cream to the Suttons and give it directly to Iris.]

[Okay.]

Quentin was ecstatic. [That's my girl. Just keep working hard for me, listen to what I say, and I'll make sure you and the kids are taken care of. I'm sure these last few days out on your own have made you realize how good you had it with me. Surviving without me is impossible. Dragging two toddlers around the city with no home must be exhausting.]

Winifred didn't bother replying. She just told the driver to turn around and head to Quentin's house to grab the cream.

When she unlocked the door and walked in, Eleanor—who was lounging on the sofa eating pistachios and watching TV—whipped her head around, her eyes bulging. "Y-you! I thought you moved out!"

Winifred wasn't going to waste her breath on the miserable woman. She bent down to grab some shoe covers, not bothering to actually take off her shoes since she'd only be a minute.

Eleanor tossed her pistachios aside and jumped up, instantly going on the attack. "Couldn't hack it out there in the real world, huh?"
