A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 111

Declan Sutton’s bold declaration hung in the air, paralyzing the dining room. An absolute, pin-drop silence fell over the space. Jaws stopped mid-chew. Nelly stared at Winifred, her eyes wide with shock. "What... what did he just say?"

Declan's words were the kind of thing most men would take to their graves. He had basically just admitted to being completely impotent. If anyone else had been asked, they might have brushed it off as a bad joke. But Winifred was the family’s hired holistic physician. She couldn't just ignore it.

"Mr. Sutton just stated that he is experiencing erectile dysfunction and requires treatment," Winifred replied evenly.

Nelly's emotions exploded. She slammed her hand flat against the mahogany table. "Declan Sutton, are you serious, or are you just spouting nonsense to act out?"

Ever since the woman Declan loved—and their unborn child—had died tragically, he had spiraled into a life of reckless partying, drowning his grief in neon lights and endless liquor. Now, hearing that he was impotent, Nelly felt a fresh wave of despair wash over her.

"You are my youngest son! The one I nearly died giving birth to!" Nelly wailed, tears brimming in her eyes. "How much longer do I even have left in this world? If you're like this, how can I ever rest in peace?"

Nelly was already terrified of death, and now, worrying about her son, she imagined herself going to the grave with her eyes wide open, refusing to let go. It was a mortifying thought. Her heart was shattering.

Iris immediately leaned in, gently dabbing a stray grain of rice from Nelly's lip with a napkin, her voice soothing. "Mrs. Sutton, please don't upset yourself. Dr. Shultz is right here. There's nothing to be afraid of."

Nelly choked back a sob. "If Declan stays like this... once I'm gone, he might just end it all."

She had always rationalized that her favorite son's only remaining joy was meaningless flings. As long as he was breathing, she hadn't demanded more. She blamed herself for tearing him away from the woman he loved, breaking him in the process. But today, hearing that he couldn't even function anymore, she realized her son had completely lost his will to live.

"Dr. Shultz is an exceptional healer," Iris suggested smoothly. "Why not have her examine Declan? If there's a problem, she can treat it. If there isn't, you can finally have some peace of mind."

Nelly stiffened, suddenly alert. "You're absolutely right! Look at me, letting my panic get the better of me."

Iris stepped in effortlessly. "Is there an issue with a female doctor treating a male patient? Hospitals have female urologists all the time." She turned her gaze to Holden Lockwood. "Holden, what do you think?"

"It's perfectly fine," Holden replied calmly. "You're absolutely right."

Iris looked at Holden's stoic expression. He was showing zero consideration for Winifred's comfort. It made Iris think back to a day five years ago...

It had been spring. Iris had sneaked over to the courts to watch Holden play basketball. During halftime, the guys walked over to the sidelines, and one of the wealthy players had taken off his sweaty shirt to change.

Winifred had been standing there holding a case of bottled water, passing them out. Without missing a beat, Holden had pulled her by the waist, spun her around, and pressed her into his chest, blocking her view of the shirtless guy.

When Winifred had tried to say something, Holden simply placed his large hand over her face, covering her eyes completely.
