He had leaned down from his impressive height and silenced Winifred with a kiss, his lips trailing over her cheek before he playfully bit her earlobe. Right there, in broad daylight, he brazenly kissed her and marked her. It was a possessive punishment.
The other guy had merely changed his shirt, flashing a few abs, and Holden hadn't even allowed Winifred to look.
But today? Today, Winifred was going to have to closely examine a man's most intimate anatomy—and Holden's reaction was complete indifference.
Iris tightened her grip on her napkin. The stark contrast between then and now had to be agonizing for Winifred. *She must be remembering it,* Iris thought. After all, Holden used to treasure her so deeply. To have been loved like that, only to now be despised by him to the core... it had to be tearing Winifred's heart to shreds.
A satisfied smirk played at the corners of Iris's mouth.
Holden stepped up as the pillar of the Sutton family once again. He looked directly at Winifred. "Dr. Shultz, please proceed with the examination."
Winifred met his cold, razor-sharp gaze without flinching. "Alright." She turned to the man still lounging at the table. "Mr. Sutton, when would be a convenient time for you?"
Declan dropped his silverware, reached out, and hooked his finger under her chin. Because she was wearing a medical mask, she didn't bother pulling away.
"Let me see what you look like first," he murmured, pulling the mask down.
Declan clicked his tongue in appreciation. "Absolutely stunning. No wonder you keep that mask on every time you come to the house. Afraid I might eat you alive?"
"Would you like to do the examination now?" Winifred asked flatly.
"Why not?"
"Then let's go."
"Lead the way."
Nelly insisted they use the mansion's fully equipped medical suite and ordered a few of the men to accompany them as chaperones. She specifically requested Holden's presence.
Iris pouted. Since Nelly wasn't allowing the women to go, she'd have to be separated from Holden. The thought of not being able to see him made her visibly miserable. She held up her phone. "Text me, okay?"
"Feeling left out?" Holden chuckled softly. "How about I live-stream it for you?"
Declan didn't move an inch. "You take them off."
Winifred didn't hesitate. She hooked her fingers into the waistband of his sweatpants and yanked them down. To her mild surprise, this dark, brooding man was wearing a pair of bright, flamboyant pink silk boxers. The fabric was sleek, shiny, and looked incredibly slippery.
As she maintained a purely clinical gaze downward, Declan suddenly experienced a very obvious physical reaction. Winifred immediately shifted her eyes up to his face.
Declan's cheeks were burning crimson.
*What a pitiful man,* Winifred thought with an internal sigh, quickly jotting down the initial observation on her chart.
She remembered what Paige had told her last year. When the woman Declan loved was six months pregnant, she jumped from a building. The impact had been horrific, resulting in the violent loss of both the mother and the baby boy. Declan had to personally gather their remains, barely able to make them fit properly in the casket.
The examination had to continue.
"Mr. Sutton, shall I keep going?" she asked evenly.
