A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 143

Mrs. Channing jumped, turning to her usually quiet and well-mannered daughter in shock. "Gwen," she warned softly, trying to calm her.

But Gwen just shifted her tiny finger, pointing straight through the open doorway toward VIP Room 6. "Mom, look! Seth and Annie are right over there!"

Following her gaze, Mrs. Channing saw them. The two children were indeed at the restaurant.

But... Quentin had just let the girl claim they weren't there. And before that, they'd explicitly stated this gathering had "nothing to do with Winifred."

The pieces suddenly clicked together in Mrs. Channing's mind. She looked at Shelly, then at Quentin, her expression cooling.

"Excuse me for a moment. I'm going to take Gwen over to say hello."

The second the mother and daughter stepped out, Quentin's temper flared. He glared at Demi. "Is it your place to speak? How many times has Winifred told you that children do not interrupt when adults are talking?"

Demi's big mouth had completely ruined his image. In the school parent chat, he was known as the 'Uncle' and Winifred as the 'Aunt'—meaning to Mrs. Channing and that entire social circle, he and Winifred were a united front, practically husband and wife. Because of Demi's careless rambling, Mrs. Channing now undoubtedly believed he was having an affair with Shelly!

Furious and humiliated, Quentin raised a hand as if to smack her.

"Aunt Shelly!" Demi shrieked, diving straight into Shelly's arms, her little body trembling.

Shelly hugged Demi tighter, standing her ground. "She's seven! What does she know? Besides, if you don't let a child speak her mind in social settings, she'll just bottle everything up. Do you want her growing up to be a timid, cowardly doormat? We want her to be confident!"

Quentin was left speechless. He poured himself another glass of wine, threw his head back, and downed it in miserable silence.

Shelly wiped away Demi's tears. "Don't cry. Your uncle knows he was wrong. He shouldn't have yelled at you. Let's forgive him, okay? You did the right thing, and I support you. Us girls need to be brave, speak our minds, and live out loud."

Having successfully coaxed the girl, Shelly eagerly pulled Mrs. Channing's gift box closer. Having never once attended the girls' school events or been involved in their upbringing, she was completely oblivious to the deep bond Mrs. Channing shared with Winifred.
