A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 216

A silver-gray Maybach hurtled directly at them.

Winifred leaped backward, dodging out of the way just in time. The luxury car smashed violently into a nearby sycamore tree, snapping the trunk and shattering its own windshield.

In the distance, Iris was screaming and running toward the wreck.

Holden stumbled out of the car, his face smeared with ash and blood, swaying on his feet. Leland, who had just reached Winifred, looked ready to murder him on the spot.

The scene was absolute chaos. The emotional embrace Winifred had anticipated was abruptly canceled, replaced by the infuriating sight of her ex-husband’s face.

Holden’s eyes were pools of bottomless, volatile emotion. It was pure, unadulterated hatred.

“Do you want me dead that badly?” Winifred asked, her face wet with tears. They were tears meant for Leland’s arrival, but she knew this toxic man would twist them into a sign of her lingering love for him, even as he tried to kill her. The injustice of it all broke her heart.

Just as she suspected, Holden was vibrating with murderous intent. “Don't you deserve to die? Because you couldn't have me, you hurt innocent people over and over again! You went after my mother twice, and you killed my sister!”

Leland stepped forward, ready to tear him apart with his bare hands. Winifred quickly grabbed his arm.

“Winifred?” Leland looked at her in confusion.

Winifred was eerily calm. “Give me a second.” She glanced at Iris, whose face screamed entitlement, her chin tipped up in that arrogant, untouchable way of a woman spoiled rotten.

Winifred shifted her gaze back to Holden. Hatred and fury intertwined in her chest. “Holden Lockwood, a long time ago, I made a choice... to stop blaming you, to stop loving you, to sever every tie between us. I never planned on hating you. Even when I walked through hell and came back scarred, even when surviving took everything I had, I never hated you. But today, you’ve finally made me feel it. Deeply. I hate you! From this moment on, you and I cannot coexist in the same world!”

She was shaking violently by the time she finished.

Holden’s eyes were bloodshot with rage, his jaw clenched so tight it looked ready to snap. “He stole another man’s woman. He deserves to die!”

Iris pushed the subject of Winifred. “It would be great if she died, but... Leland was right there. If you ran her over, you wouldn't have been able to walk away from the consequences.”

“Leland?!” Holden clutched his chest, his face draining of color.

Iris panicked. “Holden, what’s wrong?”

*Cough—*

Holden violently coughed up a mouthful of blood, his tall frame folding in half as he collapsed to his knees in the slush.
