A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 226

She hadn't touched her phone in two days.

She thought back to the timeline. Right around the time the messages were sent, she had just finished dealing with Jenson Roth, the lawyer Holden had sent. He had left her feeling completely hopeless.

Leland held out his hand. "Let me see."

He checked her files, but the folders were completely empty.

Winifred gasped. "I know what happened! After Jenson Roth spoke with me, he must have gone straight to the officer handling my belongings."

"He got his hands on my phone to check what evidence I had. He probably meant to forward the recordings to Holden to prove he was following orders, but accidentally sent them to you instead."

"He must have realized his mistake immediately, unsent the messages, and wiped my data to destroy the evidence."

It was a chilling realization. That lawyer was truly venomous. If he didn't die, how many more innocent people would he destroy?

And Holden, the mastermind behind it all, was even worse. There was no low he wouldn't sink to just to get rid of her.

"Let me make a call," Leland said, pulling out his own phone to contact his people.

Ten minutes later, he received a reply: Jenson Roth had indeed accessed her phone the previous afternoon.

Her theory was spot on.

Winifred pictured Holden's cold, ruthless face. An icy chill settled in her bones. The man she had once loved enough to die for, the man she had sacrificed so much for, was actively trying to ruin her life.

Noticing Leland staring at her, she looked up. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"I just really want to tear those bastards apart with my bare hands," Leland sighed heavily.

Winifred picked up a piece of roast chicken and placed it on his plate. "Thank you. Now eat some food and calm down."

Leland stuffed it into his mouth, his cheeks puffing out.

Amused, Winifred placed a shrimp in his bowl. "Take your time. Revenge is a dish best served cold. We'll gather the evidence step by step and take them down legally."

Looking directly into her eyes, he made a solemn promise, "So, I've decided to be a happy man with zero worries."

That way, he could make sure she was happy every single day.

The rest of dinner was filled with lighthearted banter.

When they finished, Leland naturally started clearing the plates.

"Let room service handle it," Winifred said. "You'll get your hands dirty."

Leland rolled up his crisp white sleeves. "I can wash my hands, but I'm not leaving a messy table in your way."

Fair enough. He was charming and easy to talk to.

Winifred teased, "Sounds like you've already cooked up a new plan?"

Leland snapped his fingers. "I'm delivering your first piece of payback tonight. Just wait."
