A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 229

They flaunted Holden's name like a shiny trophy.

Winifred merely blinked, her expression utterly flat.

The bodyguard stepped out of the fitting room and turned around. "How does this look?"

Winifred stepped closer, inspecting the jacket. "It looks great. How's the material? Is it comfortable?"

"Very comfortable. Breathable, too," the bodyguard smiled.

Winifred nodded and walked away.

"What the hell was that?!" Yvette stared at her retreating back, completely baffled by her indifference.

Had she misheard?

Why didn't Winifred react at all when she announced Holden was marrying Iris?

Yvette had deliberately emphasized Holden's name, closely watching Winifred's face. She fully expected Winifred to crumble into a jealous, bitter mess.

But to her shock, Winifred's eyes were completely empty.

She looked like she was hearing about someone who had died years ago—cold and entirely unbothered.

Iris felt sick to her stomach.

Holden had always been her ultimate weapon. Flaunting him was how she hurt Winifred, how she secured her victory, and how she asserted her dominance. But now, that weapon was completely useless.

Leland had proven his devotion. When Winifred was locked away, waiting for her doom, Leland had swooped in to save her. Naturally, she had caught feelings for him.

The damsel in distress found her knight.

And now, she had feelings for Leland. As for Holden... she probably didn't care anymore.

"She doesn't love my brother anymore?" Yvette muttered, unwilling to accept it as she stared at Winifred's back.

Iris bit her lip.

It certainly looked that way.

Yvette's eyes widened in horror.

They shopped until dark before heading home. Holden was out at a business dinner.

Iris sighed repeatedly, sitting on the sofa and constantly craning her neck to look toward the driveway.

She kept asking the staff if Holden was back yet, or if his car had pulled in.

Unable to get a straight answer, she anxiously pulled out her phone to text him.

"Iris, stop," Yvette said, annoyed. "He's at a business dinner. If you keep texting him, you'll just interrupt his work."

"I'm bored," Iris pouted.

"Then find a project to distract yourself until the scandal blows over," Yvette suggested.

Nobody knew how long the backlash would last. Waiting around the house was agonizing, and she had only survived one day.
