A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 235

Absurd! Running into Winifred again?

Yvette shot to her feet.

Iris quickly grabbed her arm. "What are you doing?"

Looking as if she had been personally betrayed, Yvette glared furiously. "I'm going over there!"

Iris plastered on a placating smile. "Why bother, Yvette?"

"I want to see what kind of big shot she managed to hook!"

Yvette gritted her teeth, her eyes locked on Winifred's table.

Running into her at the mall yesterday had been the biggest blow to her ego in her thirty-two years of life. She had always viewed Winifred as a stray dog their family had taken in. When they got tired of her, they kicked her to the curb. In Yvette's mind, wandering the streets and starving was exactly what a lower-class stray deserved.

But reality had slapped her in the face.

After leaving their family, the stray dog had completely leveled up, walking around with million-dollar bodyguards. She realized too late that the dog they threw away actually had value. Yesterday, she had tried using her usual condescending tone, bringing up people she thought Winifred cared about to get a reaction. But Winifred hadn't even spared her a glance.

She had spoken to her, and Winifred had completely ignored her, treating her like she was dead.

The humiliation had been suffocating.

How dare Winifred? How dare she not show respect? She had entered the Lockwood family at six and left at twenty-one. They had fed and housed her for fifteen years! And the second she found a better sugar daddy, she acted like they didn't exist?

Yvette had stormed out of the mall furious, went straight to the Lockwood Mansion to vent to Holden, and had barely managed to let it go. But seeing her again today sparked the fury all over again. Yvette was arrogant; she never let a slight slide.

When Winifred was abducted and subsequently rescued, Holden and Iris had kept their mouths completely shut. They had a strict rule: if something damaged their reputation, it never left the family. Kian only knew that Madeleine had been arrested because it hit the news. It wasn't exactly something he could ask them about—it was a massive Lockwood family scandal. As a friend who knew how much Holden and Iris cared about their image, Kian naturally played along and pretended nothing had happened.

He had absolutely no idea that Leland had been the one to save Winifred.

Yvette glanced back at Winifred and the bodyguard.

"I saw her at the mall yesterday," Yvette said. "She was shopping at a high-end luxury menswear boutique. Looks like she's really climbed the social ladder. Her new guy must be loaded."

Kian was genuinely out of the loop. He looked over again. "Are you sure it's her? Maybe you got the wrong person."

"I'm positive," Yvette insisted. "Iris was there too. She saw her. It's definitely Winifred."

Kian glanced at Iris. She looked back at him with pure, innocent eyes, looking so vulnerable that Kian's protective instincts immediately flared up.
