A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 245

After the two of them finished laughing, they walked away together.

Holden grabbed the reins of the small black horse, and Iris walked right beside him.

The bright sunlight glued their shadows together, dragging them behind as they walked down the trail. The entwined silhouette was a single, inseparable entity.

Winifred quietly pulled her gaze away.

So that was it. Holden's sudden appearance, his unhinged speeches, the forced kiss... it was all perfectly orchestrated so Leland would witness her looking "compromised," despise her, and abandon her.

To put it plainly, Holden had systematically severed the only source of warmth in her life, shoving her back into the agonizing isolation she was so used to.

He had set a brilliant trap. He had used her.

He weaponized her "indecency" just to put on a show for Leland.

And just as he planned, Leland saw her "true colors" and walked away.

Winifred shook her head.

She wasn't particularly heartbroken over Leland ditching her. She didn't want him anymore, either.

If Leland didn't want her, fine. It saved them the trouble of a formal breakup.

Wait, no. They had never actually started dating in the first place, so the word "breakup" didn't even apply.

So be it.

As for Holden manipulating and destroying her all over again, she didn't feel much sorrow there either.

Ever since their reunion, he hadn't shown her a shred of decency—only endless, escalating cruelty.

Every single day, he plotted new ways to push her to the edge.

Once you finally see through people, life becomes incredibly clear. No one was ever going to hand her an unwavering, unconditional love. Therefore, there was no point in being shocked when someone hurt her.

Next to the burial ground stood a small shed for the gravekeeper.

On the cement wall outside hung a large hoe.

She took it down and walked over to start digging up the fake grave Holden had made for her.

"Grandpa... I came to see you."

She fell to her knees, tilting her head up toward the sky so her tears would flow backward.

There was no need to dwell on the painful things; she had survived them, and that was that.

In front of her grandfather, she only wanted to share the happy, beautiful news.

"Grandpa, you have two adorable great-grandchildren. A boy and a girl. I named them Seth and Annie, keeping the tradition of our family, wishing for a lifetime of prosperity and peace."

"You don't have to worry about me anymore. I'm doing really well."

"I have my son, my daughter, and Celeste. They love me so much."

"I bought a house. Paid for it in full. The whole family has already moved in."

"My job is great, too. I just signed a contract with the Lockwood Group..."

"What are you blabbering about?! Hurry up and sweep this mud off the marble!" Burt yelled from the path, brandishing a shovel and glaring at her fiercely.
