A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 249

Outside the main archway of Emerald Town's specialty street, pedestrians and passing vehicles were packed tightly together.

Winifred stood under the arch, waiting for Leland.

Spotting a black luxury SUV pulling up on the opposite side of the road, she immediately started making her way over to get him.

She needed to brief him about running into Milo first, just to give him a heads-up and avoid any unnecessary conflict.

It was rush hour. The street was clogged with cars and teeming with people.

Locking eyes with Leland, she began to cross the busy street.

He stepped out of the car. The moment their eyes met, his face, which had initially looked relieved, instantly darkened.

What now?

Leland was rarely one to let his emotions swing so wildly.

Suddenly, someone grabbed her wrist just as a food delivery scooter zipped violently past her, mere inches from her face.

At the same time, a deep, protective voice spoke by her ear, "Watch out."

She turned around and saw Milo’s stern face.

Leland’s expression instantly turned murderous. He had clearly seen the other man trailing closely behind her.

Without hesitation, Leland pushed his way into the chaotic traffic, jaywalking aggressively to reach her side.

Seeing his terrible mood, Winifred quickly took the initiative to introduce them the moment the three stood together.

"This is Milo Sterling, a friend from my hometown."

"And this is Leland, my friend."

She was nervous.

Naturally introverted, she hated social friction, especially when navigating interactions with someone she currently had deep issues with. She felt entirely out of her depth.

Fortunately, Leland extended his hand, and Milo did the same.

The two men greeted each other simultaneously.

"Hello."

"Nice to meet you."

Just as she was internally breathing a sigh of relief, Leland fixed his gaze entirely on her. "Come with me for a second."

"What is it?" Her anxiety flared back up.

Being pulled aside for a private conversation gave her an intense feeling of dread.

She had absolutely no intention of diving into the heavy details of her marriage and divorce with him.

However...

Faced with Leland’s highly unusual aggression, she needed her old friend to run interference.

Milo asked again, "Is he... your boyfriend?"

Winifred immediately answered, "No."

She wasn't lying. She and Leland had never officially dated.

Her feelings for him had only just crossed from deep gratitude into budding affection.

If things had gone smoothly, the natural next step would have been him officially becoming her boyfriend.

But the disaster earlier had shattered that.

She was on full alert around him now.

In her eyes, Leland was walking down the exact same path Quentin had taken—slowly being sucked into Iris’s manipulative orbit. The way Yvette looked at him today was dripping with romantic intent.

And for Leland to obediently stand there, listening to Yvette laugh and joke... no one could force him to do that unless he genuinely enjoyed her company.
