A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 255

Meanwhile, Leland had no idea that someone was aggressively plotting to force him into a marriage.

Before dawn broke, Winifred had already washed up, dressed, and grabbed her purse, ready to leave.

She had learned from Iris yesterday that Madeleine was being released today. She didn't know the exact time, so she planned to wait outside the precinct early.

She opened her hotel room door and froze.

A broad back in a light gray tailored suit blocked her view.

Leland?

He hadn't left?

She blinked in surprise.

The memories of last night rushed back—they had argued until almost three in the morning. She figured it was too late for him to fly back to Kingsbridge, so he had booked a room for the night.

But that didn't explain why he was standing directly outside her door.

He could stay at the hotel, sure, but why loiter in the hallway?

The man turned around, his flawless, aristocratic face coming into view.

Their eyes met.

Leland's gaze swept over her, taking her in from head to toe with a blatant, lingering hunger.

When his eyes finally returned to her face, they burned with an intensity that felt hot enough to scorch her skin.

"I am a man who finishes what he starts," he said, his voice slow and raspy. "I came from Kingsbridge to Seaport City to save you. Since I started this rescue, I will see it through to the end. I am going to escort you safely out of this city."

He was so intensely serious that it felt almost sacred, like a vow that couldn't be refused.

Winifred lowered her head in quiet submission. "Thank you."

"When I left," Leland continued, "I promised Seth and Annelise that I would bring you home. I also promised to bring them gifts. So, when we get back, I'll need to drop by your place to fulfill my promise to the kids."

A heavy wave of helplessness washed over her—the crushing realization that she was entirely at the mercy of fate, unable to control her own life.

"Alright," she murmured.

"You don't need to feel burdened. I won't shamelessly pester you," he added smoothly. "Once I get you back safely, you can just focus on your work at my house and at Lockwood Group. The company values talent, and it's an excellent platform for you to showcase your skills. Just do your job."

"Thank you. I'll do my best."

"Let's go, then."

Today, her sympathy for Yvette was genuine.

A top-tier man like Leland could only belong to Yvette.

He was Yvette's future, her only ticket to a better life.

She absolutely refused to let Winifred hoard a man like him!

Holden, however, remained as steady as a rock.

"Don't panic," he said smoothly.

Iris's breathing was erratic. "She's got her claws back in him! How can I not panic?"

Holden told her gently, "Look closely. You'll notice something."

Iris's eyes widened. "Notice what?"

Wasn't it obvious?

Leland, looking impossibly elegant in his gray suit, was walking beside Winifred. She wore a beige belted mini-dress that showed off her long, slender legs, paired with a knee-length wool coat. They looked like the ultimate power couple.
