A Wedding Night Gone Terribly Wrong novel Chapter 284

By the time Winifred wheeled Quinn out of the hospital, Declan Sutton was still waiting at a small restaurant across the street for soup.

Declan's assistant, Howie Hale, had driven the car over and parked it right outside. It was highly unusual for Declan to spend an hour and a half waiting for takeout.

Winifred peeked out to see what was happening. Declan emerged from the restaurant's plastic weather curtains carrying a large stainless-steel tray. On it sat a black ceramic pot, a pristine white bowl, and a gold-rimmed spoon.

Howie practically leaped out of the driver's seat in a panic. "My god, Mr. Sutton! You shouldn't be doing that yourself!"

He reached out to take the tray, but Declan dodged him. Declan insisted on carrying it, leaving Howie to nervously hover his hands beneath it just in case.

Declan approached the car, poking his head inside to check on Quinn. "Baby, are you feeling any better?"

"A little," Quinn replied, pulling her hood back to reveal her eyes.

"Does it still hurt?"

"A bit."

Declan carefully set the tray on the center console, making sure it was stable before climbing into the back seat. "Let's eat before we go. It's fresh-stewed. You need to build your strength back up."

He reached over and lifted the lid off the pot. "Hiss—damn it! Why is this thing so hot?"

Howie rushed forward to grab Declan's hand, trying to take over. Declan swatted him away. "I've got it."

"Mr. Sutton, you shouldn't have to lift a finger," Howie insisted.

"Back off, you're in my way."

"But I'm worried about you."

"What is there to worry about?"

"You've never done this before. I don't want you to burn yourself."

"Well, I'm doing it now. That's what hands are for." Declan turned, scooped up a spoonful of hot soup, and began blowing on it softly.
